There’s trouble in paradise inXDefiant, Ubisoft’s highly anticipated free-to-play shooter. Players are growing increasingly frustrated with one aspect of the game that the developers just can’t seem to get right.

While it’s a problem that the developers have acknowledged before, it looks like they’re yet to find an adequate solution for it. Meanwhile, players are at their wit’s end trying to get through matches with others abusing certain broken mechanics.
XDefiant’s Jumping Is Broken, and Players Are Tired of It
Yes, the biggest problem in the game currently is its jumping mechanic. Currently, the way the jump works enables players to jump shot incessantly and use other spammy tactics to confuse their opponents.
“We have the opportunity to do that now”: XDefiant Has a Feature Ubisoft’s Other Games Can Only Dream of
Typically, in games like this one, jumping in one direction means you’re locked to that direction until you land and jump another way. There’s also theCall of Dutybunny hopping technique, where you hop a certain way to get speed and then unleash it for one mega jump.
That’s not how it works inUbisoft’sCall of Duty-killer, though. In this clip posted to Reddit, you can see the OP get slaughtered by an opponent who changes the direction of their jump mid-air.

The unpredictiveness of their movements caught OP off-guard; really though, not a lot of people would be able to track movement like that. After posting the clip to Reddit, they got a ton of support and a lot of other players also complained about the issue.
As mentioned earlier, this type of float movement in a game likeXDefiantwhich has more grounded movement and combat is not common. Some might bring up the example ofApex Legends, Respawn Entertainment’s shooter, which does have a lot of air and floaty movement.

However, the movement is very much in tune with the type of game it is, and you have tools to counter it. Plus, the time-to-kill is longer.
The Developers Need a Solution, Fast
The longer the issue goes unsolved, the more people are put off by the game. Air strafing in a game like has the potential to ruin the experience, as one player puts it.
Want to address and provide context for everyone to see and give feedback. So, this is currently by design. The reason for this is to stop egregious spam behavior. However we do not want to limit the player from utilizing great movement, as I’m sure you’ve seen (cont.)https://t.co/ujuKAiLpOD

The developers are fully aware of the situationand are working on a solution for it. However, with the rate of complaints growing fast, it needs to come out soon before it significantly impacts the player base.

Jumpshotting and other spammy movements were an issue that was present in the beta too. To punish it, the developers introduced a system that penalized such players with aim sway.
However, many felt that it was too intrusive and punished unintentional targets. It was quickly removed, and the developers are working on finding another solution.
