Wuchang: Fallen Feathershas a wide range of bosses for you to fight. From human warriors to terrifying eldritch monsters straight out of the deepest abyss, each fight has a unique challenge to test your mettle.
At the start of the game, you’ll be thrown into a “sink or swim” fight where you’ll be pitted against Bai Kru,a terrifying monster that could easily pummel you due to your limited resources and experience.

But thankfully, you can have a rematch with Bai Kru later in the story, and you can finally get some closure by defeating him once and for all, since the narrative indicates that this is quite a significant boss fight for the titular character, Wuchang.
With a massive health pool, powerful grab attack, and a wide range of thrashing attacks, the Monstrous Toddler can be quite a formidable opponent. Here’s a guide on how you can beat this boss.

Where To Find Monstrous Toddler Bai Kru
You can first encounter Bai Kru as a “tutorial” boss fight when you meet the Boatman right after you leave the Reverent Temple in Worship’s Rise at the start of the game.
Chances are that you won’t survive your first fight with Bai Kru, and that’s okay. You’ll eventually get a chance to fight him again–all you have to do is follow He Youzai’s questline, which thankfully is also the main storyline.

Eventually, he’ll tell you he’ll be going to the docks to head to the Bai Mansion, which is only accessible if you complete Zhenwu Temple by defeatingSouth General Liu WenxiuandFierce Tiger, where you’ll trek from the Zhenwu Altar shrine through a cave, and eventually wind up at the Ferry Overlook shrine.
Once you’re at the Ferry Overlook, head down the hill, and you’ll encounter the Boatman again, who will allude to your quest for revenge and closure before lending you his boat to cross the lake. Taking the boat will trigger a short, contemplative cutscene as you arrive at Bai Mansion.

Bai Mansion has no enemies other than the Bai Kru boss fight. At the Bai estate, you’ll find the Demonbane Strike spell, the Broken Belled Wheel key item, and some clues about Wuchang’s backstory. You’ll also find He Youzai, who offers to help you in your coming fight.
Turn left and go through the cave opening, where you’ll hear Bai Kru’s roar and then find the Plain Warrioress, seemingly grieving what’s about to happen. Examine an item to get the Imperial Guard Token, which will be useful for future questlines.

Head through the cave, and you’ll trigger a cutscene and begin your fight with Bai Kru.
Preparations For Monstrous Toddler Bai Kru
The following is the build I had for my (first) fight against Bai Kru:
Lashing Whip
South General’s Helmet
South General’s Robes
South General’s Vambraces
South General’s Boots
Jade Pendants
Dracolich Pendant
Tiger Pendant
Fiend-Felling Pendant
Ethereal Form
Manna Vase
Temperance
Bone Whistle
Temperance Needle
Notable Impetus Repository Perks
Sword Saint, Windforce
Bai Kru has no known elemental resistances and isn’t known to cause any particularstatus effect buildup. What makes him particularly challenging is his relatively large health pool and relentless attacks.
With that said, it’s good to haveany kind of armor that will protect you against physical damage.Bai Kru deals primarily slashing and blunt attacks with his claws and slamming attacks.
Dhutanga’s armor set, the default Pirate Armor, and the Snowfall Palace Guard armor set have some respectable damage-reduction stats against Slashing and Blunt damage.
I am a huge proponent of the Sword Counter skill and would gladly promote theOP longsword build, but monstrous bosses like Bai Kru, who don’t use any melee weapons, make this ability redundant. As such, this makes room for whatever Discipline skill you want.Whether you prefer the default Blink Kick or other acrobatic skills like Crescent Moon, the choice is ultimately yours.
AMagic buildis also viable for this boss fight, as Bai Kru doesn’t seem to have any notable resistance to Magic and Feathering damage. Still, powerful spells can leave you open to attacks,so I’d still recommend the longsword build as it leaves very few openings for your enemies to exploit.
Whether you choose a magic or longsword build,Ethereal Form is an absolute must for any boss fight, and Bai Kru is no exception. It is the singularmost powerful spell in the game, giving you three seconds of near invincibility, only costing one stack ofSkyborn Mightand refunding a stack for any dodged attack.
You can find Ethereal Form in Zhenwu Temple, near the two cannons on the left side of the temple.
Don’t forget to bring your Manna Vases,Temperancefor extra damage, and the Bone Whistle to summon He Youzai to join you in your fight. This leaves you an open slot for whatever consumable you want to bring with you. Whether it’s another healing item (in case you run out of Manna Vases) or a Lantern Fruit for stamina regen, it’s completely up to you.
For my fight against Bai Kru,I went with the longsword build and prioritized my Benedictions to increase stamina gain and survivability, along with Jade Pendants that further increase my damage, like the Tiger Pendant.
Because Bai Kru is a large, monstrous boss, the Fiend-Felling and Dracolich pendants are perfect for this fight, which allow you to deal extra damage and prevent you from being stunned by his roar, respectively.
Bai Kru Moveset
First Phase
Bai Kru’s moveset is simple,as he usually starts the fight with a well-telegraphed leap to your position. While it deals heavy damage and can knock you down, it’s easy to dodge this attack.
His basic attack patterns often involve slamming you with his claws three times. He has a one-handed and two-handed variation, the latter of which can lead to an animation where he swipes up to slam the ground again, dealing damage twice.
Sometimes, Bai Kru might perform a couple of backflips to gain some distance. Don’t let that fool you, as the somersaults deal a small bit of damage.
Bai Kru has an attack wherehe spews a concentrated jet of liquid at you, whether sideways or upwards. The aftermath that results from his water jet also deals a small bit of damage, so be careful of that.
He also has a grab attack, which is indicated by an audio cue and a telegraphed charge where he goes for what appears to be a hug, and a roar attack, which can stun you unless you button-mash out of it.
Bai Kru shares a lot of similar attack patterns to theGluttonous Monstrosity, except with more ferocity and more emphasis on leaping attacks.
Second Phase
Once you get Bai Kru to half health, the music will swell, and he will attack more frequently.
He doesn’t have many changes to his attacks. The only additions to his moveset during his second phase arethe tentacles that sprout out of his chest when he roars, dealing damage around him, and he can fire an air blast at you.
Reverent Temple Version
As previously mentioned, you can fight Bai Kru early in the game by talking to the Boatman near Reverent Temple, and while he’s a tough boss at the start, it’s entirely possible to beat him, even with a completely new save.
This goes without saying, butbeating him in NG+ and beyond is significantly easier. He has fewer moves and health, allowing you to beat him much quicker since you’ve already faced him in a previous save.
How to Beat Bai Kru
Bai Kru is a fun and surprisingly easy fight. His attacks aren’t too complicated and are well-telegraphed from start to finish, while still being threatening enough to be a decent challenge. Compared to other boss fights, Bai Kru is a test of endurance.
While you may beat Bai Kru solo, you can summon He Youzai as an ally for this fight, as he can take a lot of punishment for you while you focus on attacking the boss.
As with most monster bosses, the best approach to beating Bai Kru is to consistently flank his side and back, as he often attacks right in front of him, and doesn’t have any spinning attacks to shake you off, unlike the Blightweaver.
The longsword build allows you to be as aggressive as you can be. You’ll need to get the ball rolling by landing the second attack of your light combo to gain a stack of Skyborn Might, which will then allow you to immediately cast Ethereal Form and go ghost if you get hit.
This will give you three seconds to evade any incoming damage, so use this to attack Bai Kru as much as you can to build up more Skyborn Might stacks. Eventually, you’ll find a rhythm: one-two, dodge, one-two, dodge, one-two, dodge.
With this simple strategy, you’re able to easily build up Bai Kru’s stagger meter and stun him in no time. Keep in mind that since he’s a monster boss, the prompt to execute an Obliterate attack is at his head, so ensure to stab his head when he’s down for those precious few seconds.
Keep this rhythm up, and he’ll be defeated with relative ease.
If you manage to beat Bai Kru at the beginning of the game, you’ll earn five extra Red Mercury Essences to upgrade your skill trees, and a compliment from the Boatman himself.
Defeating Bai Kru at the Bai Mansion will net you the following rewards:
