Moreover, the reason behind the show’s cancellation was truly bizarre as it had nothing to do with the quality or viewership of the show. Instead, the series was canceled because toy makers Mattel did not see the animated property as a viable option for revenue generation. Here is everything you need to know aboutYoung Justice‘s cancellation and its current status.

Young JusticeWas Canceled After 2 Seasons For the Most Bizarre Reason

Young Justicepremiered on Cartoon Network in November 2010 and quickly amassed a loyal fan following. The series ran for two seasons, comprising 46 episodes, with the final episode of season 2 airing in March 2013. However, the same year, the show was dropped from Cartoon Network’s schedule, and it was later confirmed by the creators that it had been canceled.

In January 2023, co-creator Greg Weisman took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to clear the air about the show’s first cancellation. In atweet, Weisman explained that the series was canceled because Mattel, who manufactured toys based onYoung Justicecharacterd had dropped it as a toy line. Mattel was also a major contributor to the show’s production budget.

However, when the toys did not sell well, the company pulled the funding and canceled the toy line. As a result, the series was quietly canceled after Mattel pulled the plug on the toy line. Similarly, Weisman had also stated that Mattel pulling the funding because of poor toy sales was the main reason for the show’s cancellation during apodcastin 2016.

Young Justice‘s Future Is Still Unclear After Season 4

Following its release on Netflix and a fan petition,Young Justicewas eventually revived and officially renewed for a fourth season in November 2016. The third season aired on the now-defunct DC Universe service before moving to HBO Max for its fourth season.
