One Piecedirector Marc Jobst did great with the first two episodes ofOne Piece Live Action. While directing the scene, Jobst refrained from adding any new element, as It was perfect as it was. When asked about the unique relationship during aninterview, he said,

“It’s an iconic element in the manga. So it was one of the very few scenes where I really wanted to clearly reference the framing of the manga by and large. We weren’t seeking to replicate in the live-action [version] the same frames that were in the manga. We wanted to honor the spirit of him, but that particular scene has such iconic imagery to it.”

Monkey D. Luffy never knew what fatherly love was. It was Garp and the Mountain Bandits who took care of him. So, when Shanks gave him the affection of a father, he could not help but do the same. Shanks was arguably one of the strongest pirates on the planet, and losing an arm could could have ruined his reputation. Still, he sacrificed his left arm to protect Luffy from a Sea Monster.

The passing of the Straw Hat was not just a parting. It was everything to Luffy. He named his pirate crew the Straw Hat Pirates, and more than himself, he cares about the hat. The entire moment was wrapped in love and inspiration. Shanks missing Uta and Luffy not knowing fatherly love made the emotion deeper.
