The Boyscontinues to push the boundaries with its audacious and lurid explorations of its characters. After the first season, fans have come to expect some wild and shocking scenes that may be deliberately nauseating and disgusting as episodes progressed. Season 4 goes even more crazy with how it manages to shock audiences with its graphic and violent scenes.

Last week’s episode was a significant one for Jack Quaid’s Hughie as he experienced a tragic loss in his life. His trauma, unfortunately, escalated with the events in the latest episode. However, showrunner Eric Kripke revealed that the ‘torture’ scene was meant to be hilarious showing off how freaky Tek Knight was.
Eric Kripke Weirdly Calls The S*x Dungeon Scene InThe BoysA Hilarious Take on The Batcave
The Boyshas never been shy to depict some uncomfortable and cringy scenes that are seually overt or unexpectedly gory. With its political commentary in season 4 that has become very divisive among fans, thenewest episodetook things to a whole new level with their portrayal of Tek Knight’s seually perverted actions.
“It went on for an hour and a half long”: Erin Moriarty Had a Tough Job Landing Starlight in The Boys That Was Almost Like Running a Marathon for the Actress
The episode sawJack Quaid‘s Hughie disguised as Webweaver to enter Tek Knight’s party and place bugs all over his house. However, Tek Knight lures him to his sx dungeon where he and Ashley seually assault him with their weird kinks and activities that they had previously planned to do. Hughie was already in deep trauma after the loss of his father but this humiliating experience has totally scarred him for life.

Audiences were deeply grossed out and felt very sorry for Hughie going through another traumatic experience. However,Eric Kripkerevealed that the s*x dungeon sequences were meant to be hilarious digs atBatmanand his Batcave. They also wanted to adapt to a particular storyline from the comics where Hughie dressed up as a superhero and they fused those elements together. Kripke toldVariety,
Well, that’s a dark way to look at it! We view it as hilarious. Obviously, Tek Knight is our version of Batman, and we wanted to really play around with that trope. So that was one. Tek Knight was already set up to be a freak…he should have a Batcave — but let’s be honest, the Batcave would be a s*x dungeon.

And in the comics, there’s a great storyline where Hughie goes undercover disguised as a superhero. That was a story that Jack had always asked us to do.
Hughie is deeply affected by the torture he underwent and breaks down in front of Annie. It was clearly a representation of the damage done to se*ual assault survivors. Kripke’s comments about treating it as a comedy is confusing as fans did not see Hughie’s experience in the episode as something amusing.

Eric Kripke Did Not Want To Wait Till The End For That Big Twist InThe Boys
Jeffrey Dean Morgan made his debut inThe Boysuniverse as CIA agent Joe Kessler, a good friend ofBilly Butcher. The character’s arc grows weirder and strange since he is never seen talking to anyone except Butcher. The latest episode saw the confirmation of the speculations made by fans over the weeks.
“The actor for Ryan got recast”: The Boys Has Recast 2 Major Characters and We Didn’t Even Notice
The episode finally showed that like Becca, Joe Kessler was also a figment of Butcher’s imagination. While Becca is the side of him that keeps him grounded and reasonable, Joe Kessler pushes him to do questionable and diabolical things.
In an interview withVariety, Eric Kripke stated that they were not going to wait till the end for that reveal to happen, as Kessler is now the devil on Butcher’s shoulder who will be forcing him to do cruel things. He said,

We were always going to reveal it in Episode 6 — we didn’t want to save it for the end of the movie. Because now Kessler has this new role to be literally the devil on his shoulder, and really be twisting the knife and saying really cruel things to Butcher that all happen to be totally true — which is always great when your villain can be a real truth-teller.
The revelation is a big thing for Butcher as now realizes that his tumor has worsened and will be struggling to accomplish his mission before he eventually dies. It remains to be seen how Butcher deals with Kessler in future episodes.

The first 6 episodes ofThe Boysseason 4 are streaming on Prime Video.
