A still from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire

Godzilla’s Marvel comeback for the first time in 46 years is coming with a pretty red bow on top. The Toho Co. creation has occupied a place in pop culture lore for a healthy period all by its lonesome, but no more. After quite a few enjoyable and lucrative crossovers with its Monsterverse neighbor, King Kong, the kaiju is finally sharing a space with the Silver Surfer, X-Men, Hulk, and more.

Godzilla’s epic comeback to the Marvel universe

In an issue that ran briefly from 1977 to 1979,Godzilla, King of the Monsterswas a comic crossover event set within the mainstream Marvel universe. Since the end of the issue, the king of the monsters neither set foot in the Marvel universe nor made any efforts to contact its once-lived-in reality for nearly half a century.

Now, Godzilla is set to take on Marvel superheroes in an issue succinctly titledGodzilla vs. Marvelwhere the former will encounter the Fantastic Four, Thor, X-Men, Spider-Man, Hulk, the Herald of Galactus, and probably more. In an exclusive report published byThe Hollywood Reporter, the kaiju will fight King Ghidorah, the classic Monsterverse antagonist, who has now been imbued with power cosmic and crowned as the new herald of Galactus.

Meanwhile, Galactus, the devourer of worlds, who is in itself the greatest antagonist of the Fantastic Four, will be engaged in another classic battle with Marvel’s first family. This sets up the Fantastic Four for an iconic team-up with Godzilla as they fight Galactus’s cosmically powerful herald.

The limited series will feature six comic issues starting in March 2025. Meanwhile, Marvel editor-in-chief C.B. However, DC may have beaten Marvel to the punch as the former has already released their own crossover event titledJustice League vs. Godzilla vs. Konglast year in a much-anticipated issue (as the title already suggests).

Even so, the six-issue Marvel comic will be a once-in-a-lifetime achievement for both Toho Co. and the superhero universe given the revolutionary era that the CBM industry is going through, considering theFantastic Four’s debutin the Marvel Cinematic Universe in July 2025.
