Earlier Iteration
The iconic movie was based on Mary Rodgers’s 1972novelFreaky Fridayin which a mother and daughter switch bodies due to a magical fortune cookie, however, this was not the first adaptation of the book. The first adaptation of the book was released in 1976 featuring Barbara Harris andJodie Fosteras the mother-daughter duo who switch bodies.
Summer Switch(1984) was the second attempt to bring this classic story on screen with gender-swapped roles, which wasn’t a success. Subsequently,A Billion for Boriswas the third attempt that made several significant changes to the story, which wasn’t a huge success either.

Another movie greenlighted by Disney starring Shelley Long and Gaby Hoffmann was the fourth attempt to cash on the fantastical tale by direct TV release. At last, the 2003 movie with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan broke the curse of below-par adaptations and earned $160.8 million at the box office.
