Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2is set in the city of Seattle, but anyone who is thinking of trying to leave the city is going to be stopped in a most unusual way, rather than just the usual invisible walls and lack of bus stops.

In the lore of the Vampire: The Masquerade tabletop game, the Kindred generally stay in cities, as that’swhere humans (aka, food) reside. There’s also the fact that incredibly vicious and powerful werewolves hang out in the countryside, just waiting to tear apart any undead who approach their territory.

Magic Is Keeping Phyre In Seattle

According to the developers of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, Phyre (the game’s protagonist) cannot leave Seattle thanks to magic. Any attempt to do so will force them to turn away.

Phyre has amystical brand on their hand, one with a connection to the story at large. If they try to leave, the brand will stop them. Why it does this is unclear, but as an ancient elder vampire with a mysterious past, it’s possible that they have been cursed by an even greater undead, and forced to stick around Seattle until their task is complete.

Obviously, the developers could simply have made it impossible to leave the city via invisible walls. The fact that the game is set over the holiday period also offers a convenient reason why public transport isn’t active. This means that Phyre being trapped in Seattle is a major plot point.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 has big shoes to fill, as thequest hubs in its predecessor(well, the first two at least) are some of the best in gaming history. Hopefully, the haunted and dangerous streets of Seattle can compare to the Los Angeles of the first game.
