Elden RingDLCShadow of the Erdtreeis all set to release on June 21, over a year after it was first announced, and will take players to a new region called the Land of Shadow. The release date trailer showcased that the expansion will have the same setting and theme as The Lands Between.

Elden Ring DLC will have a similar structure as the base game.

The DLC will take place on a new map and looks to be filled with content such as new bosses, weapons, spells, multiple areas, and more. However, game director Hidetaka Miyazaki has said that much won’t change in terms of the structure of the expansion, and it will be similar toElden Ring.

Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree Isn’t Much Different From the Lands Between

TheShadow of the ErdtreeDLC will see players journey across the Land of Shadow as they try to discover the story behind theElden Ringand what led Miquella to the Land of Shadow. As much as players would love to visit new places and fight new bosses, the experience is not changing much.

“one little area of regret”: Elden Ring’s Hidetaka Miyazaki Only has One Career Regret, and it’s One That Changed the Soulslike Genre

In a recent interview withIGN, FromSoftware head and game director Hidetaka Miyazaki was asked about the structure of the Land of Shadow and if it’ll be the same as the base game with small and legacy dungeons.

Miyazaki replied that it is structured in the same way as the base game, and players will have an experience like the main game. Here’s what Miyazaki said:

“one little area of regret”: Elden Ring’s Hidetaka Miyazaki Only has One Career Regret, and it’s One That Changed the Soulslike Genre

We think players can expect a similar experience to what they had with the base game. This is going to be structured in a similar way, as you said, with open field maps, with large scale legacy dungeons, and with small to medium scale legacies as well.

Miyazaki said that throughout the structure, the expansion will provide the“same sense of scale and sense of adventure”as the game. He also revealed that the map size of the expansion world is similar to Limgrave,“if not larger.”

Shadow of the Erdtree will brings new enemies and weapons with a brand-new location.

Could the DLC’s Structure Affect the Player’s Experience?

FromSoftware has always been spot on with its DLCs and has even delivered a more immersive and exciting experience than the base game at times. The expansion having the same structure as the Elden Ring should not hinder the player’s experience, as the DLC is bringing several new things that will make it a unique experience.

“Honestly, I’m concerned…”: Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree Needs to Avoid Multiple Mistakes of the Main Game

From the new enemies, characters, and bosses to new weapons and armor, everything hints at the expansive size of the DLC, and the world of the Land of Shadow looks exciting. Miyazaki has also said that the bosses and enemies in the expansion have a connection to the area, and the DLC could also provide backstories on those enemies.

Moreover, the expansion will bring new gameplay and all of it with more hidden details that intrigue players should the trick like any other FromSoftware and Miyazaki DLC.
