Olivia Colman is considered one of the most legendary actresses of all time, and her one Oscar, four BAFTA awards, two Emmy awards, and three Golden Globes only justify her worth to the entertainment industry.

But despite having bagged massively critically acclaimed roles like her most recent one as Queen Anne in Netflix’s comedy thriller seriesThe Favorite, she was reportedly removed from Greta Gerwig’sBarbie,on purpose.

According to recent reports revealed by none other than the very narrator of the 2023 blockbuster film herself, there was a scene inBarbiethat included Olivia Colman. However, it was later removed due to reasons unknown.

And now, enraged fans are blaming this very act by the creators of the film to be the reason why Greta Gerwig failed to even get nominated, let alone bag, what would have been her first-ever Academy Award as a writer or director.

Olivia Colman’s Scene With Helen Mirren Was Deleted FromBarbie

Barbie, in itself, was a spectacular masterpiece, the sole idea of which was ignited from the depths ofMargot Robbie‘s imagination. However, this masterpiece would have been even better had the creators not decided to delete Olivia Colman’s only scene in it.

During a recent interview withVariety, Helen Mirren, who notably served as the narrator in the movie, revealed that she actually had a scene shot of her and legendary actress Colman for the film. She described the scene as:

A still from Barbie

“It was a very funny scene with Olivia Colman sort of playing drunk and us clashing about who is the real grande dame of British actresses,” Mirren revealed with a laugh. “She comes in and tries to take over the role of the Narrator and I had to fight her off.”

However, even after this scene was reportedly shot, things went in the opposite direction and ended withthe scene getting deletedfrom the film once and for all.Helen Mirrendescribed it as a parody scene, a revelation that proved to be a bombshell for fans, who are now asking for it to be released.

But even that isn’t all: Enraged fans are now even crediting directorGreta Gerwig‘s snub at the Academy Awards 2024 to be the result of this very act of hers.

I’m sorry, I really like the Barbie movie, but these shenanigans kind of of prove why I don’t think it should win an award for the screenplay.

I had absolutely no desire to watch a movie based on a doll. That said, if I had known Olivia Coleman and Hellen Mirren were in it, I might have watched it. That’s just a bad editing decision.

now i get why greta was not nominated

Judging from all these responses, it seems that Greta Gerwig would have to provide a reasonable justification as to why she decided against including Olivia Colman’s scene inBarbie. That is,if she wishes to get back on their good side.
