Speaking with comedian Michael Rapaport on hispodcast, McDonald discussed the whole incident while singing praise of Sandler.

Starting his discussion by claiming that Adam Sandler is the smart man behind his role inHappy Gilmore, Christopher McDonald admitted that it was the actor who eventually changed his mind. Being candid about how he had initially turned down the role, McDonald noted sitting for a discussion with Sandler which eventually changed his mind about the role.
