CD Projekt RED has already confirmed thatthey will get back to the world ofThe WitcherafterCyberpunk 2077, however, it’s yet to be known whether the new story would return our beloved Ciri and Geralt or it would announce a full set of new characters. In a recent chat withVG247, the principal writer behindThe Witcher 3: Wild Huntsaid that it’s possible to see a prequel to Ciri’s story.
The Witcherseries, especially the third mainline installment of the franchise, has made a lot of gamers fall in love with the story of Geralt, Ciri, Yennefer, Triss, and the other memorable characters of the trilogy. Even with a promising title likeCyberpunk 2077, still, a lot of fans would die for a new adventure in the world ofThe Witcher. Fortunately, we will return to that rich world, but the question is what’s going to happen to the characters we met in the first trilogy?
When asked about the possibility of having Ciri as the lead character inThe Witcher 4, Jakub Szamałek, the story designer behind the latest witcher game and the principal writer behindCyberpunk 2077, started to explain the things that the developers would love to happen inThe Witcher 3, but they didn’t. He said:
I regret we didn’t get to explore Ciri’s past a bit more. She’s such an amazingly rich and complex character.
Due to obvious reasons – well, she’s pretty much gone for two-thirds of the game – she didn’t get quite as much screen time as we writers would have liked. But hey, maybe it’s something we’ll get to get back to in the future.
Obviously, it doesn’t confirm anything about the next game inThe Witcherseries, but it’s heartwarming to hear that the team considers returning Ciri and focusing more on her backstory in their future projects.
CD Projekt RED is currently working onCyberpunk 2077and the game is set to be delivered on September 17th this year. A next-gen version of the game will also hit Xbox Series X and PS5 on an unannounced date.
