Marvel Studios’ Extensive Measures to Hide Scarlett Johansson’s Pregnancy
Marvel Studios took some extensive measures while filming the 2015 filmAvengers: Age of Ultron,considering that the Black Widow actress was pregnant at the time.Scarlett Johanssonhas also shared that she was grateful to be surrounded by a super supportive team.
DirectorJoss Whedonsaid in an interview withEntertainment Weekly,“We’re not avoiding any of the danger because the stuntwomen do the danger.”And the makers hired not one but three stunt doubles to cover up for the actress in the intense action sequences.

Reports suggest that visual effects were employed to cover Johansson’s pregnancy, given its advanced stage during filming. The directors also opted for some creative ways to hide her baby bump, as Mark Ruffalo shared,“There’s a lot of close-ups. It’s not too hard at all.”
Some of the scenes in the film strategically masked Johansson’s pregnancy, such as the one featuring Natasha flirting with Bruce Banner behind a bar, effectively concealing her bump. Another such scene is where Ultron imprisons Black Widow, with Johansson strategically positioned in the shadowy depths of a prison cell.

Chris Evanswho starred alongside Scarlett Johansson as Captain America in the MCU hassharedthat he has never seen a“woman more happy pregnant” than his Marvel co-star. The actor also shared that theBlack Widowstar actively participated in the filming.
“She’s just been great—She seems like she’s got this,”he said. However, the presence of three stunt doubles, uncannily resembling the actress, led to amusing confusion for Evans.“It’s always funny. You walk by, ‘Hey Scarlett, oh. Weird. You’re not Scarlett at all. Sorry,'”he said before adding,“A lot of fake Scarletts around.”
