While there’s no definitiveawards-giving body for the video game industry like the Academy Awards is for movies, the biggest awards show is the end-of-year celebration,The Game Awards,held annually in December.
Aside from the game reveals, which are arguably the main reason people tune in to these shows, the big draw is which game wins Game of the Year. Today, the list of nominees for the event’s most prestigious award has been named, with one entry that might raise eyebrows.

As you may see, Black Myth Wukong has the lowest score average among the nominees, thoughwhen it comes to sales numbers, we suspect it has every game beaten rather handily. The big winner when it comes to platforms is the PS5, as all the nominees can be played on Sony’s current-gen console, which other platforms can’t lay claim to.
The odd one here is (at least for me) is Elden Ring’s expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree. While the expansion has received mostly positive reviews, it’sstillan expansion, not a standalone game.The jury has changed the rulesand considers DLCs, remakes, and remasters eligible if they deem them good enough.It is not guaranteed that Shadow of the Erdtree will win the coveted award, but it is kind of weird to see an adjustment made to accommodate an expansion.

Of course, these games can win awards in other categories, so even if your favorite game doesn’t win Game of the Year, it can still snag some other trophy.
