The First DescendantdeveloperNexonhas issued a statement after a journalist discovered that the new free-to-play looter shooter was using “barely-changed” icons from another popular looter-shooter: Destiny 2.
The discovery was made byForbes' Paul Tassilast week. Tassi described the icons seen in The First Descendant as “copy my homework without making it look like you copied it.” The journalist then included a handful of screenshots comparing the icons used in The First Descendant with strikingly similar icons in Destiny 2.

Hands-On Preview: The First Descendant Fails To Convince
Cool Sci-Fi aesthetics aren’t enough to save its otherwise stale gameplay.
While there’s no denying that The First Descendant’s icons have a similar resemblance to Destiny 2’s, things become a little bit messy when you realise that these icons are actually free to use and merely altered by Destiny 2 developer Bungie. While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, it also means Nexon isn’t necessarily doing anything that would infringe on any copyright laws.

But, with that being said, Nexon has now addressed the issue in astatement to Tassi:
“The First Descendant, as a looter shooter game, was developed with a deep affection and respect for other games in the genre. Destiny 2, being a globally renowned looter shooter game, is also personally admired and respected by the team, and it has served as an inspiration during the development process.”

“We have taken the concerns raised seriously and decided to make adjustments to ensure that the imagery that may appear similar clearly reflects the unique identity of our game. We will continue to improve the game for fans of the looter shooter genre.”
The First Descendant was released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam on June 30th, but currently sits at a “mixed” review rating on Valve’s storefront. Many of thenegative reviews statethat they are not comfortable with Nexon’s request to share personal information with third parties.Other negative reviewsdescribe The First Descendant as “Warfare without the mobility” and “Destiny without the cool skills.”

Yesterday, Nexon released the first patch for The First Descendant. The 1.0.2 update added a highly-requested feature whilst also including a plethora of bug fixes. More details on the update can be found via theofficial patch notes.
