WhenSquid Gamebecame a sensation in 2021, discussions were rampant about one character’s apparent death in the season. Detective Hwang Jun-ho infiltrated the game and posed as one of the guards to collect evidence against the creators and the rich men playing. His ultimate goal was something personal, but he was shot and fell off a cliff into the ocean when he finally achieved it.

Will Detective Hwang Jun-ho Return ToSquid Game Season 2Alongside Seong Gi-hun?

Hwang Jun-ho, played by Wi Ha-joon, infiltrated the game primarily to find his long-lost brother In-ho. WhileSquid Game‘s perilous games kept the audiences on the edge of their seat, Jun-ho kept them intrigued by slowly unraveling the mystery behind the games. Through Jun-ho, audiences got to see how the guards ran the operations of a very well-organized crime.

Jun-ho exposed the organ-stealing gang among the guards, got access to Front Man’s files where he learned that his brother won the game, and even managed to take down a deprived VIP betting on the game. However, in a shocking twist at the end of the series, it is revealed that his brother In-ho was the masked Front Man.

In-ho couldn’t let Jun-ho expose the game’s secrets and confronted him at the edge of a cliff. He shoots him in the shoulder, which leads the detective to fall off a cliff into the ocean. It was the last time fans saw Jun-ho in the series, as his body was never found and the villains were never shown to make an attempt to recover it.

As per the cardinal rule of film deaths, you can’t confirm the death of a main character without a body. Fans speculated that Jun-ho could’ve somehow survived the events of the first season. Their speculation was based on the fact that he received a non-fatal shot and, hence, could probably swim to his safety.

However, they still don’t have an explanation for why he couldn’t stop the games from happening again if he was alive. These fanshope to see him backinSeason 2alongsideLee Jung-jae‘s Seong Gi-hun. The ending ofSeason 1showed that Gi-hun was determined to expose the games and put an end to them, which is why he committed to it once again.

It is possible that Gi-hun and Jun-ho will team up against the big baddies behind the game. Jun-ho’s absence in the trailer is obvious as the series creators are likely to keep him hidden to keep things interesting.
