Reflecting on his struggles, he admitted in an interview withThe New York Timesin 2020 that it took“a long time to fundamentally, deeply, without a hint of doubt, admit to myself that I am an alcoholic.”

This marked a pivotal moment in his life as he acknowledged the impact his addiction had on his life and family. But slowly the cracks within his marriage to Garner began to show, and in 2015 the duo filed for divorce. The high-profile divorce quickly became the talk of the town, but both actors maintained a dignified stance and respect for each other throughout.

But the actor wasn’t without regrets and, in a moment of vulnerability, confessed via the same New York Times interview that“The biggest regret of my life is this divorce.”

But he also acknowledged that one must pick themselves up, learn from it, and attempt to move forward with a clear conscious.
