Saber Interactive’sWarhammer 40k: Space Marine 2has garnered a positive reception overall in the months since its September 2024 release, and all the future content plans for the title prove that there’s still a lot to be excited about.

As one of the top third-person shooters that leans into the brutality of theWarhammer 40kuniverse,Space Marine 2delivers all the gory combat that one wishes for. What’s really great is that Saber presented us with a sequel that didn’t fall into the same trap as Bethesda Game Studios and Todd Howard’s infamousFallout 76.
Space Marine 2Didn’t Fall Into the Abyss LikeFallout 76
Bethesda and Todd Howard’sFallout 76debuted wayback in 2018. Gamers were excited to see what the company had in store. However, upon its release, the title was slammed with negative reviews as it was buggy, incomplete, poorly balanced, and basically lacked any meaningful content.
Even though theFalloutgame has made a comeback in recent years against all odds, it still doesn’t change the fact that, at its core, the game is still a mess.

“Wretched abominations!”: 2 Months after Release, Space Marine 2 is Being Blasted for the Most Annoying Tyranid Weapon
Bethesda’s attempt to transform the franchise by diving into multiplayer and live service attempts wasn’t the best, as it was a departure fromFallout‘s biggest luring factor, which ultimately divided the entire fanbase.
If Howard and his team hadn’t embraced the gaming industry’s live service and multiplayer chaos and instead focused on delivering a single-player experience with upgraded graphics and phenomenal storytelling,Fallout 76would’ve proven to be a worthy entry in the franchise.

Luckily, Saber Interactive took a different route when bringing the sequel to the originalSpace Marinegame. Instead of chasing industry trends, Saber focused on maintaining the fundamental gameplay ofSpace Marine 2, which pulled fans to the series in the first place, and refined that experience to new heights.
Saber didn’t touch the combat system, or bring unnecessary additions that complicated things. It simply followed“if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it”strategy which worked wonders.

Saber Interactive is Already Planning to Bring aSpace Marine 2Successor
With Saber’s attention to detail and promise to do justice to theWarhammer 40kfranchise, it’s not shocking to see thatSpace Marine 2 has proved to be an incredible hit. Right on its debut, it set a new bar as it established itself as the fastest-selling game in Saber’s entire catalog.
That’s quite an achievement when you consider the fact that this is the same studio that has worked on iconic games such asQuakeandDoom.

Space Marine 2 Needs a War Memorial to Honor Our Fallen Brothers – We Know Just the Place
Unlike Bethesda, which didn’t capitalize onFallout‘s recent resurgence, Saber is already looking for ways to follow up on the game. In an interview withIGN, the company’s Chief Creative Officer, Tim Willits, stated that the team has come up with various ideas for a DLC in the future or a full-blown sequel.
However, it’s going to be a long while before we see these plans materialize. As Willits mentions, Saber needs some time to think before anything moves forward. The studio doesn’t have any intentions of disappointing theWarhammer 40kfans and is already planning to bringbig chances with the upcoming December update.
