How I Met Your Motheroffered a story that followed friends who fell in love and out of love. They broke each other, and they made each other with care and support that helped them grow as people. It showcased their ups and downs through the lens of a comedic setting, creating a fanbase that learned to laugh and cry with them.

With the way fans followed the story for 9 seasons and grew to care for it, it came as a true betrayal when the final season turned into a crumbling mess. Everyone, including the protagonist, worked for years to understand that Ted and Robin weren’t perfect for each other.

With this in mind, bringing them back together in the final moments of the series was a tragedy of the highest regard. While there was a lot at play to cause such a huge shift, fans focused their attention on Robin’s character in a discussion, and she does not come out looking good.

How I Met Your Mother’sWorst Character

Out of all the characters,Cobie Smulders’Robin has always been like a thorn in everyone’s side. She was a character whose back and forth with Ted became almost tiring to the point where if they were to touch upon the romantic aspect of their relationship again and again, things just got irritating instead of interesting.

Their relationships with other characters were almost entirely different elements compared to the ones they had with each other, making their dynamic all the more frustrating through their relationships with other people. It was a cycle that made no sense and ruined characters’ arcs one after the other in the process.

Fans have collectively started to resent Robin’s character over the years since the series ended, believing that she thought of herself first and then those around her. It was a never-ending irritable pattern that made them dislike her to the point of no redemption. While the series worked in the final season to somewhat make changes towards it, the finale crashed it all down in one go.

While all hatred has been focused on the final scene from the series, one fan focused on another point of the story that they think ruined her character to a point of no return.

A Confession of Love and the Hate That It Brought About

There have been several moments throughout the seasons ofHow I Met Your Motherwhere Robin’s character suddenly realizes her feelings for Ted. While Cobie Smulders’ excellent performance did aid the scenes, her actions and disregard for their consequences did not help the actress much. There is one scene, in particular, that a fan found especially insufferable.

In aRedditrant, user astrophile14 talked about all of the reasons why Robin’s character constantly hurt those around her, narrowing it all down to one moment that encompasses her selfishness. In the Halloween section of the second last episode of the series, Robin confesses to Lily that she does not feel like she is actually part of the group.

Listing out how her ex-husband is flirting with someone in front of her and how the man she was supposed to be with is happy with someone else, she broke down. Although the scene was supposed to get her character some sympathy, it only made fans angrier.

The fan pointed out how this one scene showcases just how self-centered she is as a person. Having taken both the men in her life for granted and then getting upset that they moved on with their lives without her. Considering her pattern of only wanting Ted when he was happy without her, the moment only added fuel to the fire.

How I Met Your Motheris available for streaming on Netflix.
