Season 1 ofX-Men ‘97proved more than fans could even have expected. It brought forth a seamless transition from the 1990s’X-Men: The Animated Series, brought forth a fresh narrative which perfectly sat with what the overall franchise is supposed to be like, and re-introduced some iconic mutants who fans will hope eventually make their way to live-action as well.

Even as the first season came and went with 10 glorious episodes, fans will already have one eye out for what’s to come next. Well, fret not, for Brad Winderbaum, once of the executive producers of the series, recently revealed exactly what fans can expect in Season 2 ofX-Men ‘97.

Brad Winderbaum promises a familiar ride for X-Men fans withX-Men ‘97Season 2

There were simply a number of ways in which the first season of the series exceeded fans’ expectations. Plenty of doubts about whether the series will be able to live up to the hype had been aired by fans, particularly when it was revealed that it will be following the same kind of animation style as was seen inX-Men: The Animated Series.

However, not only did the first season stay true to everything the X-Men are all about, it also captured the nostalgia of the past while balancing it with an emotional narrative that was always bound to resonate with fans. According toBrad Winderbaum, who recently spoke on The Official Marvel Podcast, Season 2 will be something similar:

We got big plans for the second season. We have already seen all the animatics. We are well on our way to creating something that hits the heights of the first season. I know the first season is an emotional ride, that ride continues in very X-Men fashion in the second season.

Hence, fans can expect a similar type of nostalgia to envelope them via the second season, which Winderbaum promises will be an emotional ride, just as Season 1 proved to be.

X-Men ‘97Season 1 resonated with fans on an emotional level

There were plenty of narration elements that made the first season the stellar success that it became in such quick time. The series brought forth plenty of familiar faces and their familiar personalities and delivered a compelling narrative that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

Furthermore, the death of characters such as Gambit meant that it also struck an emotional chord, and perfectly captured what the in-team antics and disagreements within theX-Menare all about. Focussing once again on the ideological differences of Magneto and Charles Xavier, we saw a vulnerable, almost scared Magneto lose his calm and invoke his fury on the entire planet, even after Charles Xavier returned from his assumed death.

The rise and the destruction of Genosha, and everything that the mutant nation stood for, further touched a chord, as we saw Bastion completely destroy what the X-Men had been working towards, bit by bit. A perfect storyline, compelling yet familiar disagreements within the team, and the ideal depiction of what the X-Men are supposed to stand for was combined effortlessly with various modern elements and inclusive characters, which meant thatX-Men ‘97was always going to become as successful as it did become.

Fans will hope, just as Brad Winderbaum has promised, that season 2 does something similar.
