Director OfDark SoulsRefuses To Confirm An Age-Old Theory

Dark Souls 3came out back in 2016, and a running theory ever since has been how the main character, called The Ashen One, has been stuck in a time loop. The theory further speculates how the character keeps dying and resurrecting again, which makes the already forlorn storyline of the game seem more unfortunate.

WhenMiyazaki was finally asked if the theory held any credit, the director chose to indirectly avoid the question by saying how it was a tough one to answer. He then further disclosed how the Fire remained in a state of constant regeneration and how a big thing would be created while it did that, which was the director’s attempt at spoiling anything at the time.

Fortunately, a deeper insight into this particular concept was given in his later works throughElden Ring. The idea of recurring birth and death has been explored through the rune of death in the title and could have been potentially inspired by this particular theory.
