How much more could anyone ask for? The successful anime adaptation ofSpy X Familyby (Wit X CloverWorks) Studio has made waves all over the globe. Not only does it have quite an interesting plot but it also has a cast no one could possibly resist. At the heart of its success lies the lovable family trio – Loid, Yor, and Anya – whose antics have stolen the hearts of fans worldwide.
But behind this huge success of the manga, there is a lesser-known story of one of its major creative hurdles. Tatsuya Endo, the creator ofSpy X Family, faced a rather creative challenge that could have changed the story’s core narrative. It was a huge blunder in character development, especially in one of the most important side characters in the manga, that threatened to derail the ongoing storyline.
Damian Was Supposed to be Even More of a Jerk!
In an interesting interview, Tatsuya Endo opened up with some fascinating details about how the manga was created. Among the many, the most intriguing one was when Damian was first characterized, as the spoiled and arrogant classmate of Anya. Endo-sensei confessed that Damian was initially planned to be even more unsympathetic in the series.
That was unexpected. I actually wanted to make Damian more of a jerk.

But as he began to draw Damian, the character suddenly started to change in his mind. Instead of the insufferable brat he had initially envisioned, Damian was more suited to be a calm character for the story’s ongoing narrative. Endo was rather surprised at the change in his own creative vision.
But as I was drawing him, I realized that he’d turned into a calm, low-key character.
The fact that Endo was able to diverge from his original plans, choosing a more well-suited approach for the narrative, speaks a lot about his storytelling instincts. Thus, Damian’s character was given more depth and a more relatable personality. It has greatly contributed to the success of the manga by making Damian a more lovable and complex supporting character.
What to Expect From Spy X Family Season 3?
AsSpy X Familyheads into its eagerly awaited third season, fans are sure to get an even more intense look at the intricacies of Operation Strix. Incorporating many aspects of the first two seasons, the new series will give fans many more actions where stakes are raised and intrigue intensifies.
The center stage for the majority of the season will be Loid’s missions, along with the extensive field operations with his WISE colleagues in Ostania. All being done to secure Loid’s objective: getting hold of information about Donovan Desmond. On a personal front, season three will most likely unfold some complex dimensions within the Forger Family. Yor will maintain the secret life she does as an Ostanian assassin on one hand and wife and mother on the other.
