Nightdive Studios’System Shockremake has received a surprise demo as part of the recentSteamNext Fest event. The demo allows players to experience a new playable introduction sequence and face a few new enemy types.Slated for a release in March 2023, the System Shock reboot has been in development for a long time, with multiple hiccups and interruptions, but it is now closer than ever to a full release. The demo on Steam is supposed to bring the core experience of the previous demo opportunity with meaningful upgrades, such as improved AI for enemies, vending machines, mod kits, ammo depot, controller support, new Cyberspace levels, transdermal dispenser, new UI, and some significant updates for sound and animations.RELATED:Pokemon GO Launches Valentine’s Day Event With Gardevoir And Tapu LeleUnfortunately, the demo is only available for PC players at the moment, but it remains unknown whether console versions will ever receive a demo before the game’s full launch next month. Although the game is supposed to release in March 2023, an exact release date is yet to be revealed.Development on the System Shock remake started in 2015 at Nightdive Studios, and was initially aiming to be a remaster at first, but then upgraded to a complete remake. The project was founded through Kickstarter, and while the development process seemed to be proceeding well, the remake was put on hold in 2018. At the time, the developers decided to restart the project with an approach toward a reboot rather than a remake. Since then, the developers have targeted 2020, 2021, and 2022 as their release window respectively, but each time, the project was delayed further.
While the release of this free demo is an opportunity for fans to learn more about the state of the game, Nightdive Studios made it clear that the Steam Next Fest version is only a glimpse at the world that they have created. It does also not represent the final product as features are subject to change, especially knowing that the game still doesn’t have an exact release date.
System Shock Remake is now available for pre-purchase on Steam for $39.99. Keep in mind that your progress in the demo will not be saved, which means you’re able to’t carry it over to the final version of the game when it launches.
