Super Mario Bros. 2 Isn’t Getting A Movie

The first Super Mario Bros. movie combined lots of different story elements from various entities in the franchise. However, Super Mario Bros. 2 was only referenced a handful of times, most notably through the Shy Guys.

The fact that the next movie is based on Super Mario World means that were unlikely to see any filmed based on Super Mario Bros. 2, where the characters are trapped in a dream world and fight all kinds of unusual enemies, including King Wart who was a brand-new foe. Bowser is nowhere to be seen in this game, meaning Jack Black could havetaken the film off.

It’s a shame that Super Mario Bros. 2 isn’t being adapted, but it’s not completely unsurprising, as fans are aware that it’s not truly a Mario game, as it was originally a different title, called Doki Doki Panic, with its own cast of Arabian Nights-themed characters.

Super Mario Bros. 2 is still an excellent game and could very well have formed the backbone for a film. The fact that the first film ended with the Yoshi teaser meant that Super Mario World was always likely going to be the one that was adapted next, even thoughthe true sequelhas a more unique setting. Maybe if the films keep doing amazing numbers at the box office, there will be a Super Mario Bros. 2 adaptation, butSuper Mario Galaxywill likely be selected for the third entry, while Birdo and King Wart are left out in the cold.
