Pickpocketing might seem straightforward, but mastering it requires practice, strategy, and an understanding of the game’s stealth mechanics. Pickpocketing as a skill also becomes more valuable as the game progresses, so it is certainly a handy trait to have.

How to Pickpocket in Starfield

If you aren’t feeling virtuous inStarfield, you can pickpocket just about everyone apart from your companion. It’s also worth pointing out that pickpocketing is essentially stealing in Settled Systems, so it’s illegal to do the act.

When you put one point in the Theft skill tree, pickpocketing as a mechanism will automatically be available to players. Once acquired, simply sneak behind an NPC, which will allow you to pickpocket.

Before you pickpocket, you can also go through all the items in the victim’s inventory. This won’t be considered a crime, and you can safely review items before committing the act of pickpocketing.Players can also pickpocket specific items, and there will be a color on top of it indicating the success rate.

Items in blue have the highest chance of being stolen ( 99% to 65% chance), with red items having the lowest chance ( 10% to 1% chance). Both green (64% to 35% chance) and orange items (34% to 11% chance) fall in the middle, and stealing them can be a hit or miss. Lastly, gray items cannot be stolen unless level 4 Theft has been unlocked.

Upgrading Pickpocketing in Starfield

As mentioned before, pickpocketing is available in the skill tree,so players can upgrade their characterby allocating the required points. If you’re wondering about the perks of upgrading the Theft skill tree, each level increases your chance of successfully pickpocketing an item.

At level 1, you unlock the skill, while at level 2, the chance of successfully pickpocketing an item increases by 10%. The level 3 upgrade will increase the chance by 30%, and finally, at level 4, you will have a 50% chance increase and the ability to grab holstered weapons.

If you ever get caught pickpocketing an item, a bounty will be placed on your head, and the nearest guards will rush to arrest you. If you resist the arrest, the situation will only get worse. However, if you do get arrested, you’ll have to pay a fine, and all your stolen items will be confiscated.
