Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderis one of the best Star Wars titles I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing. As Cal Kestis, destiny takes you on a grand journey through the galaxy. Guided by The Force, you’ll fight The Empire at every turn, andmanis that fighting satisfying. Blocking blaster bolts and throwing around Stormtroopers has never felt so good.

But what I low-key loved most was the impressive customization, especially when it came to lightsabers.

When I was a kid, I was obsessed with the Jedi fantasy. I wanted to wield one of those elegant neon swords desperately. My friends and I would sometimes go to the local hardware store in search of plumbing pipes and various parts to make our own not-so-elegant lightsabers. We would spend hours piecing them together, painting them, and then enjoying our handiwork as we swung them around.

You can imagine my excitement when I saw that Fallen Order has the most robust lightsaber customization I’ve ever seen in a game.

At this point in time, it’s fairly common to be able to choose your lightsaber color in a Star Wars game; some even allow you to select a hilt and a color. Fallen Order takes all of this way further. You’re able to customize pieces like your emitter, the sleeve, the switch, the metal type, and so on.

I’ve spenthourslooking over every little piece in my collection and seeing how various parts look together. Sure, maybe I’m just a big tinkering nerd, but for me it’s one of the best parts of the game. These parts are unlockables, so you’re going to have to put in a little work if you want to see every option available to you.

Of course, it can be a little difficult to see your beautiful creation once you’ve left the workbench. While you’re swinging the saber around in combat, the most noticeable piece is going to be the crystal color you’ve chosen. If you’re like me, you might want to see that sweet hilt of yours in action!

Well, that’s where photo mode comes in. With the ability to zoom in and out, you can easily see the lightsaber you’ve created in its full glory. I love to document my playthrough of a game through screenshots. Using photo mode to see my personal lightsaber in the hands of Cal as he cuts down enemies is a singular joy that’s hard to replicate.

There’s a lot to love about this game, so grab it while you can. WithStar Wars Jedi: Survivorhitting store shelves in March, you’ll want to be prepared. While you might find yourself pulled in by the enthralling story, don’t forget to take a little extra time to make the lightsaber of your dreams. It’s totally worth it.
