S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobylis a post-apocalyptic FPS that’s not for the faint of heart, and developers GSC Game World are making a huge push to polish the game’s performance and stability.
GSC just released a roadmap of changes they plan to make for the rest of 2025, with the primary focus being an upgrade to Unreal Engine 5.5.4.
STALKER 2took approximately a decade to complete and development cost tens of millions of dollars, but it was such a hit, the Ukrainian game development studio wasturning a profit in under a month.
While the game garnered a dedicated fanbase and widespread respect for itsimmersive and often-terrifyingopen-world experiences, there were still a few issues holding it back, butGSC’s new roadmaphas somehuge quality-of-life improvements.
GSC Game World Makes STALKER 2 Engine Update A Priority
The gaming community is buzzing after hearing STALKER 2’s engine will be getting an upgrade. Not only will it help give gamers a smoother experience, but it will also open a lot of doors for the beloved survival game.
“Our main mission in the near future is upgrading the game to Unreal Engine 5.5.4. This will bring new features and tools to make the Zone an even better place, but more importantly — bringing the latest Unreal Engine 5 optimizations will lead to better stability and performance.”
Giving STALKER 2 so much love does come at a cost, and GSC has stated they may have to put some of their other updates on the back burner for a while.
This could shake up the timing of other updates. We’re taking this risk — like true stalkers would — and will do our best to hit our 2025 goals.
STALKER 2’s 2025 update list isn’t all about the engine update; it’s a long list of improvements, including:new anomalies, extended day/night cycles, new night vision devices and binoculars, A-Life updates, UI changes, updates to the zone kit modifications tool, and more.
GSC plans to release S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl forPS5 and PS5 Proin late 2025, and have also revealed they’ve got even bigger surprises on the horizon.
