According toXGP, Xbox is now refunding all pre-orders submitted for Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl due to the game’s uncertain release date. Microsoft has not officially commented on this yet, but we have already seen similar decisions on the games that get delayed without an exact release window.
Currently, Microsoft doesn’t allow players to submit a new pre-order for Stalker 2 as the game only targets a 2023 release without specifying the release day, month, or even quarter.
Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl is already one of the anticipated open-world games for the near future, however, the ongoing war in Ukraine and the fact that the development team was originally based on Kiev left them no choice but to delay the release date multiple times. Although a majority of the GSC Game World developers relocated to the Czech Republic after the war, some of them volunteered to join the army and fight with the invaders. Also, a number of developers are still in Ukraine and trying to work on the game in a difficult situation.

Currently, the game doesn’t have any specific release date, which is the reason why Xbox refunds the pre-orders placed for the game.
This isn’t the first time that a similar thing happens. Previously, when Cyberpunk 2077 was delayed multiple times, Xbox refunded the pre-order placements for the game until a new exact release date was announced by the developers.
Stalker 2 received its first gameplay trailer during an Xbox showcase, where it was officially confirmed as a day one launch on Xbox and PC Game Pass. Although the game has not officially been confirmed for PS5, a leak from confidential documents of Microsoft revealed that Stalker 2 will be a timed console exclusive on Xbox for three months.
The development of Stalker 2 started back in 2018. The game is built upon Unreal Engine and will only be available on new consoles and PC.
