You will need to continuously invite your friend to play the game with you each time you start a new session. Players with the Friend’s Pass will only be able to access the game if invited by the player who owns the game.
Local Co-Op Versus Online Co-Op
One thing you will need to decide is whether you want to play the game online or in local co-op. These are two very different ways of experiencing the game that truly allow you and your partner completely different experiences.
Playing inlocal co-op means that you’ll be playing side-by-sideand sharing the screen and console. This way does not require the internet, so it could be better for some people if a steady connection is an issue.
If you want to play with a non-local friend, you will need to do online co-op. With this option, you will both be playing on separate devices and your friend will need to install the Friend’s Pass version of the game.

This is arguably the better option for online play since you’ll be dependent on your console’s native network as opposed to relying on EA’s servers like cross-platform players will need to do.

The other option for online co-op is hosting the game via EA’s servers. This is the option that a large portion of players will need to pick for cross-play.
For this option, you are able to play with your friendseven if they are on a different platform than you. This means that you can own the game on PC, and they could download their Friend’s Pass on their PS5 and still play along with you.
If you are playing cross-platform, you will need to make sure to select this option and add your partner as a friend in EA’s system so that you can play with one another through their servers.
Which Version Is Better?
The truth is, neither way is necessarily better than the other;it is all up to what is the easiest for you and your partner. If you don’t have a stable internet connection, however, local co-op is the way to go. You’ll have the added benefits of in-person communication with your partner and no chance of network issues ruining your session.
As for whether you should pick through EA’s servers or other servers, again, it is completely up to the individuals.Though again, if you’re playing cross-platform, you will have to play through EA’s servers, no matter what.
My opinion is that local co-op is the way to go if you can do it. My best friend and I playedIt Takes Twoonline and thenSplit Fictionlocally, and the local co-op route was a lot more fun overall.
There’s just something about sitting there with someone while you argue over whose fault it is you keep dying. Plus, you’re within arm’s reach for when they decide to start killing you in the game on purpose.
