When playingSplatoon 3Salmon Run: Next Wave, the sun may begin to set at the start of a wave. This means that a Known Occurrence is happening; this is no small matter, as various events will occur during the wave that require you and your teammates to plan around them in order to get Mr. Grizz his Golden Eggs. Though it may not necessarily be counted as a Known Occurrence, it is important to keep an eye on the tides.

The ocean surrounding the level means instant death for you and your teammates. Low Tide will cause the water to retract, opening up a new section of the stage and often placing the Egg Basket in a new location. You’ll have plenty of room, buttry not to get separated from your teammates. Salmonids can quickly outnumber you, so keep an eye on any teammates that wander away from the group. High Tide, meanwhile, will cut off portions of the stage and give you less room to work with.It is very easy to get overwhelmed during High Tide, so communicate with your teammates and work together if you find yourself struggling.
Grillers are armored vehicles that constantly emit a deluge of Salmonid ink and hordes of Smallfry.Grillers are fast and invulnerableto all attacksexcept for a tail poking out from their back. When dealt sufficient damage, the Griller will sprout three more tails, making taking the Griller down much easier. Once defeated,the Griller will drop Golden Eggs.
Grillers will target one player at a time, indicated by a laser sight. Grillers are fast and relentless -if a Griller is targeting you, consider just runand let your teammates take it down. Meanwhile, Smallfry will be harassing your teammates - if you are not the one targeted,remember to deal with the crowds of Smallfry. They can build up quickly if left unchecked.
It’s difficult, but you can stand on top of Grillers for a moment without being harmed. Try to kite them to locations where they can’t get to you while your teammates take them down.
After a while, a second Griller will spawn, with two now active at once. Act accordingly, and do your best to survive the Griller’s onslaught while getting Golden Eggs.
Glowflies - the bane of any Salmon Run player. During a Glowflies wave, only Chum and Goldies will spawn. However, the Salmonid will be frenzied,moving faster than normal and swarming their target. The Salmonid will attackjust one player at a time, indicated by the player beingsurrounded by glowing motes of light.Communication with your teammates ismandatory- it is incredibly easy to get overrun by the Salmonid’s vicious onslaught. Two other teammates should focus on establishing a kill plane to deal with the Salmonids, while another should focus on depositing Golden Eggs. Remember,your goal is not just to survive, but to collect Golden Eggs!
An invaluable weapon during Glowfly waves areRollers- particularly the Dynamo Roller.Rollers can easily splat Chum; holding the Roller downand tilting the Left Stick to slightly move forwards will turn you into a wall that instantly splats any Chum that walk into it. Place yourself between the targeted teammates and the Salmonids - even if you are targeted, you have the best means to deal with the Salmonids.Just remember to keep an eye on your ink, as the large numbers of Salmonids can easily burn through your ink.
If the Salmonids build up a large enough crowd, they may be able to climb on top of each other. Be careful if you hide on a wall, as you may not be as safe as you think.
A key component of completing Glowfly waves is positioning. The Salmonids will pathfind to you, as any other video game enemy would - take advantage of this bymoving between locations that have only one way to access them. For example, on Sockeye Station,the raised tower at the center of the mapis a good place to hang around. The Salmonids will always move up the curving ramp to get to you - have your teammates set up defenses there and let them know if you need to move to another safe location.
Fog will roll in at the start of the wave,obscuring your vision and making it difficult to seelong distances. In addition to standard Salmonids,the elusive Goldie will spawnamong Boss Salmonids.Goldies drop a lot of Golden Eggs, up to ten at a time, so keep an eye out for them.
Fog can easily cause team cohesion to fall apart. It can be easy to lose track of your teammates, socommunication is key. Use of the “This Way!” emote can help guide lost players towards you. Aside from this, the Fog events are fairly standard - just remember toact as a teamand do not wander off on your own.
Goldie Seeking
Multiple glowing valves will appear across the map; splat them to open them, yielding a gushing fountain of ink.One of these gushers hides an elusive Goldie, who willfleewhen found -attack it to make it drop Golden Eggs. The Goldie will dive into another gusher, and the process will start over.Lesser Salmonids will also spawn from the gushers, so ensure to tread carefully.
The Goldie dropsplenty of Golden Eggs,dropping one at set intervals along its health.High damage-per-second weaponsare recommended when attacking the Goldie, being able to net you many Golden Eggs quickly before the Goldie slips away. Goldies will also regenerate health when out of combat, allowing you to farm more Eggs - when fully defeated,the Goldie will drop three Eggs and another will spawn. The gusher thatglows the brightest is the one that the Goldie is hiding in. Check the gusher’s brightness, and you will find the Goldie in no time.
This Known Occurrence happensexclusively in Low Tide. Unlike other Low Tide waves,the Egg Basket near the shore will not open up- instead,you and your teammates must carry Golden Eggs from a crate near the shore all the way back to the Egg Basket in the center of the stage- to make up for this,Golden Eggs are counted as 2 Eggs. During this, lesser Salmonids will rain from the sky to attack you and your teammates. Admittedly,the Tornado is among the easiest of the Known Occurrences. Spawn rates are low, and you have a large number of Golden Eggs to win;the challenge is efficiently getting them to the Egg Basket. To do so,form up a “conveyor belt"of sorts; one player will toss Eggs to the next until they reach the Egg Basket. Doing so can net you up to30 Eggs, yielding high scores should you survive to the end of your shift.
A second Golden Egg container will spawn near the end of the wave. While you can break it open and carry the Eggs to the Egg Basket, the first one can provide up to 30 points worth of Eggs - more than enough to meet the quota even on Profresional difficulties. It is still an option, though by the time the second container spawns,surviving the remainder of the run should take priority at the point.
Mothership
The Mothership will emit large numbers of flying Salmonids named Chinooks;Chinooks carry containers of Salmonidsand will deploy them across the stage.No Boss Salmonids will spawn during this wave, so the only way to get Golden Eggs is todefeat Chinooks before they fly away. Chinooks drop one Golden Egg apiece and come in great numbers. Long-ranged weapons are recommended to deal with Chinooks, asshorter-ranged weapons may not be able to hit thembefore they land. Instead, short-ranged weapons should focus on ferrying Golden Eggs to the basket and dealing with any Salmonids that do spawn;the containers that Chinooks drop will spawn Chum, Smallfry, and Cohocks.
Every so often,the Mothership will make a move on the Egg Basket, attaching to it and sucking out Golden Eggs. Quickly fire on the Mothership, asenough damage will be enough to send it flying away- make sure to chase it off before it sucks up too many Golden Eggs, especially if you are close to meeting the quota. The Mothership will make a move twice per wave;after the second time, it will retreat back into the water.
Mudmouths, large Salmonids covered in goo, will erupt from select locations on the map and begin spitting out Salmonids.Mudmouths can be defeated by throwing Splat Bombs into their mouths; two bombs should do the trick. Much like Flyfish, explosive attacks like theInk Jetor Explosher can damage Mudmouths as well.Mudmouths will constantly spawn Chum and Smallfry, so ensure to not let them stay around for too long, as a crowd of Chum could build up. Golden Eggs will drop from Mudmouths as they take damage, dropping a group of them when defeated.
Golden Mudmouthswill occasionally spawn in place of normal Mudmouths. These differ from normal Mudmouths in their gold color and theirability to spawn Cohocks. Golden Mudmouths can be dangerous as the same principles of preventing crowds apply to them as well, only now they spawn the tougher, bulkier Cohocks.
Cohock Rush
These Known Occurrences happenexclusively in Low Tide. During this wave,Cohocks will spawn as the only lesser Salmonidsthat appear in the run; Cohocks are big, bulky, and hit hard, so dealing with them in large numbers is tricky. Thankfully,special Cannons will appear near the Egg Basket, which can be operated by teammates in Swim Form. The Cannons fire missiles that candefeat multiple Cohocks in a single hit, as well asdeal high damage to Boss Salmonids, so use of the Cannons is a must. Just be careful -each shot from the Cannon takes from your own ink reserves, so keep an eye on your ink. You may have to retreat temporarily to fill back up.
The Cannons are invaluable for completing this wave, as the large numbers of Cohocks and Boss Salmonids can quickly overwhelm players.Make sure at least one teammate is operating a Cannon whenever possible, as they can easily clean up large crowds of Salmonids and clear paths to tow Golden Eggs over to the Egg Basket.
