Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2has been bursting on the scene just a few days after its release. This third-person hack-n-slash shooter by Saber Interactive has been released on July 05, 2025, on Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.To carry forward the legacy ofSpace Marine(2011), Saber Interactive didn’t leave any stone unturned.

It brought back the main essence of the franchise, Captain Demetrian Titus. However, unlike the predecessor, the successor has a different voice behind this popular character. And this voice itself is quite famous in the gaming industry. Then what prompted him to make a comeback to the industry? Let’s find out.
Clive Standen Came Back toSpace Marine 2Because of the“Swarm Technology”
InSpace Marine(2011), Captain Titus was voiced by Mark Strong. However,Space Marine 2went beyond him and chose renowned British actor Clive Standen as the voice of Titus.
Standen had a strong CV before joining theWarhammer 40Kfranchise, as he had previously voiced Kosak inTom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Lea inInversion, and Marine civilian characters inAlien vs. Predator.

His last work, although, was in 2012, so what nudged him to make a return to the industry after more than a decade? In a recent interview with Fandomwire, this is what the actor had to say:
Well, I’m really all about immersion, and I just think that this was an opportunity to be in a game where you’re creating a whole world, you know, on the screen. Also, I knew Saber before. I’ve worked with them before on a previous game, Inversion, it was called. And they were in touch with me and they showed me some of the footage of their game they did for World War Z. And they have this swarm technology… They just generate and form new enemies, and there’s no lag on it at all.

Standen also stated that he was convinced that this swarm technology was going to be one step better inSpace Marine 2than inWorld War Z. He didn’t forget to share his warm regards towards the Space Marine and the Ultramarines at the end of his answer.
How WasSpace Marine 2Inspired byWorld War Z?
Building onWorld War Ztechnologies,Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2is increasing the amount of mayhem on screen. Developer Saber Interactive’s co-opWorld War Zshooter, which had players slaying hundreds of brainless enemies who would actually collapse over one another and attack you in waves, had more zombies than I’ve ever seen on screen before beginning development onSpace Marine 2.

Saber Interactive CCO Tim Willits reveals in a Gamescom interview withGamesradar+that the reasonSpace Marine 2andWorld War Zare so dedicated to that carnage is because they both have a director (Dimitriy Grigorenko) and“swarm tech.”
The swarm tech brought in all these hordes of zombies and then we evolved that technology with updates to World War Z,”Willits says, before explaining that the tech has seen a“new evolution”inSpace Marine 2.“So we’re able to create these epic battles where you have just hundreds, maybe thousands of Tyrannids coming at you in the swarm, and then when they hit the breaker, and they start to turn, and separate, and come after you.

Even more terrifying is the fact that there is an “AI director” working behind the scenes who “knows about you, and knows about your teammates” and “controls the swarms, controls the enemies.” As Willits states, “The game won’t be fun if you’re just invincible.” Therefore, even though Space Marines are canonically OP, hopefully, the threat of being outwitted will keep us alert.
