For those unaware of what it is, it’s a piece of hardware that one can use for unmatched precision in shooter titles while also coming in handy for a variety of other genres. However, it’s no stranger to controversy, as plenty of gamers feel like it’s actually cheating as it gives wrongful gameplay advantages to the ones using it.
This obviously didn’t sit well withCall of Dutyplayers who play with only fair means during its online multiplayer mode, prompting PlayStation to intervene and try to fix the situation.
PlayStation 5 Releases an Update to Block the Cronus Zen, and Call of Duty Fans Are Ecstatic
Just a couple of days ago, on January 24, Sonyunleashedthe latest firmware update for its console, PlayStation 5, and one new feature stood out the most, especially to theCall of Dutycommunity. It turns out that PS5 users will no longer be able to use their Cronus Zen with their gaming platform, which should fix a huge problem that the online multiplayer community has been facing for a while.
The controversial and divisive device basically makes gameplay much easier for users by letting them use macros, and with modified controllers featuring extraordinary precision, these players became unstoppable during theirCall of Dutymatches.
The main reason why the use of Cronus Zen is so evidently unfair in onlineCall of Dutygames is that it provides players with extremely precise aiming capabilities, which is naturally a make-or-break aspect of any shooter title. The company claims that its device is used by more than half a million players, which means that a lot of gamers cannot do anything about these countless overpowered individuals while playingCoD, making the experience more horrible than fun.
“Cheating” devices like these became such a norm that even publisher Activision specified that it would take strict action against the Zen and other similar tools.
Although the official PlayStation 5 update did not specify the ban on Cronus Zen, it appears that it has been in full effect since the latter took to its website to address the concern. On the main home page of its guide, Cronus haspublisheda huge “WARNING” regarding the PS5 firmware update from January 24, stating that it is “aware of an issue with Zen and” Sony’s console.
The company wrote that “the console is prompting everyone to update,” but upon doing so, users will not be able to connect their Zen devices to their PlayStation 5 “without disconnecting.”
The Call of Duty Community Rejoices About the Much-Awaited Decision
On one hand, Cronus is trying to get its users to “skip” the latest PlayStation 5 update, stating that it is not even “mandatory,” while even going as far as telling people to “disconnect the PS5 from the internet” as the console updates “in Rest mode too.” However, on the other hand,Call of Dutyfans over at theModern Warfare 3subreddit could not behappierabout the Zen device being blocked.
Directly attacking the unfair “Cronus users,” a gamer taunted them by calling it a horribly “bad investment.”
The uploader then proceeded to congratulate the rest of theCall of Dutycommunity for finally getting to play “with legitimate players for once,” while thanking Sony for the decision. Another user called it a “step in the right direction,” with one player saying that they would be able to “enjoy” online multiplayer titles now.
