Solo Levelingfans are eagerly waiting for the second season of the most anticipated anime series of 2024, which took the anime industry by storm. The second season of the series has been announced for July 21, 2025, and it will give further insight into the story of Sung Jinwoo and his journey to become the strongest hunter inSolo Leveling.

However, as fans might have noticed, the storyline of the anime series is a little different than what the webtoon and the manhwa had portrayed. This is because A-1 Pictures and Chugong are trying to avoid all the mistakes they made with the original storyline and bring a much more refined narrative for the series that fans will certainly enjoy more.
This was already hinted at by Atsushi Kaneko, the animation producer forSolo Levelingwhen the first season was about to be released. The main issue that the anime is focused on dealing with is not letting Sung Jinwoo steal all the limelight like he did in the manhwa. The creators have vowed to focus more on the side characters and give them a chance that they didn’t get in the original storyline.

Solo Leveling’sproducer wanted to make the series better
Before the first season ofSolo Levelingcame out, animation producer Kaneko talked about his ambitions with the anime series and what he hopes for the story. A summary of his interview was shared by@chromat1cfireon X. Kaneko pointed out that he wanted theSolo Levelinganime to reach great heights and surpass the likes ofSword Art Online, which is another project that he worked on along with A-1 Pictures.

Kaneko also stated that because he was associated with the production ofSword Art Onlinefor so long, he was compelled to work onSolo Leveling. His experience withSword Art Onlinemotivated him to take on the challenge ofSolo Levelingand make it one of the greatest anime series of all time.
Kaneko also shared details about how A-1 Pictures will proceed with the direction ofSolo Leveling, and one of the most significant details was to focus on characters other than Sung Jinwoo, the protagonist. They will try to show more development towards the secondary character, which was one of the biggest drawbacksof theSolo Levelingmanhwa and webtoon.

The side characters ofSolo Levelingneed more attention
Although theSolo Levelingmanhwa stands at the top of the manhwa community, it still had some issues that forced fans to criticize the storyline of the series. Out of all those issues, the biggest one was probably the fading of the side characters, who, despite being insanely strong and significant, did not have much role in the central narrative of the series.
Thebiggest example of this was Cha Hae-In, the only female S-Rank Hunter in Korea and the vice-guild master of the Hunters Guild. As a character, Cha Hae-In had a lot of potential, and she could have helped in the better development of theSolo Levelingnarrative. But her role was confined to being the love interest of Sung Jinwoo.

Fans Claiming the Solo Leveling Has No Story Overlook Its Social Commentary
Most of the story is based around Sung Jinwoo’s journey, and because of this, many side characters who could add more substance to the plot are left behind. Hopefully, the second season ofSolo Levelingwill avoid this mistake and give the side characters more attention and a chance to prove themselves.
Solo Levelingis available to watch on Crunchyroll.
