In celebration ofSea of Thieves' fifth anniversary, developer Rare has released a new teaser trailer for its upcoming documentary, Voyage of a Lifetime, which promises an inside look at the development of the pirate game. Additionally, Rare has provided a breakdown of the new content coming to Sea of Thieves with Season 9 on March 16.
The new season’s headlines include a high-value loot item called the Chest of Fortune, which brings an array of commendations and cosmetics. As detailed by the development team, the ninth season includes linked changes to Reaper’s Chests, new voyages for Captains and Pirate Legends, plus new world events balanced based on crew size. These events will consist of more than 100 levels of Seasonal progression to earn rewards.

Rare will also bring changes based on the community feedback, saying that Reapers will no longer be able to run into the Devil’s Shroud to make their treasures inaccessible. The loot from these running ships will span to a safer spot nearby. “Community feedback has fueled a lot of Season Nine’s changes and updates, with improvements coming to harpooning treasure, the introduction of a food radial menu, and seagulls circling the loot from sunken player ships. “the official press releasereads.
To celebrate the game’s fifth anniversary, Rare also kicked off the Maraduer’s Medley Event, in which players can complete tasks to earn cosmetics and enjoy challenges that revisit updates and additions from the last five years. All players who sail from March 17 - 22 will be awarded the Lustrous Legend Figurehead. There is also a discount sale active from March 17-28 for classic ship sets, costumes, weapons, and Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life items.
Sea of Thieves: Voyage of a Lifetime documentary will premiere on March 20, which features never-before-seen footage and a candid look at the development of the pirate game. The documentary will show the evolution of Sea of Thieves in the most detailed way. Sea of Thieves: Season 9 will release on March 16.
