AndCharlie Coxflawlessly portrayed the titular Daredevil. But the world ofDaredevilandThe Punisherwasn’t all choreographed fight scenes and high-stakes drama; it came with its own set of bruises and battle scars. For instance, one particularly grueling scene nearly left Cox with a broken rib.

On the other hand, Bernthal’sIMDbpage boasts a staggering record—his nose has been broken a reported 14 times as of 2018. In a light-hearted Instagram post, the actors took a stroll down memory lane, discussingtheir timeonDaredevil.

Charlie Cox portrayed the titular Daredevil, a blind lawyer by day who moonlights as a masked vigilante by night.

During the chat, Bernthal confirmed that the number of times his nose has been broken was, in fact, 15, including a mishap on the set ofThe Punisher. With a chuckle, he remarked:

I mean, you may see it. It’s right there for you.

While portraying Baltimore Police Sergeant Wayne Jenkins, Bernthal ended up in an unplanned, real-life brawl with a fan.

The conversation then turned to Cox, with the host jokingly asking if he was responsible for any of those broken noses. Bernthal swiftly dismissed the notion, stating:

I don’t think you’ve broken my nose.

Cox, on his part, clarified that while he never broke Bernthal’s nose, Bernthal had come close to breaking his rib during an intense scene. Cox recalled,“He kicked me so hard, I couldn’t breathe,” leading him tocall a timeoutto recover.

At ACE Comic Con (viaComic Book), Cox elaborated on a particularly memorable scene involving a boat where the Punisher was supposed to deliver a powerful kick to Daredevil. At that time, the actors were still warming up to each other, and Cox, wanting to ease Bernthal into the role, told him:

Hey dude, don’t worry about me, you go ahead and kick me if you need to.

The Punisherstar took this advice to heart, delivering kicks with gusto. After a few takes, theDaredevilactor had to put his foot down—literally—asking Bernthal to ease up due to the excruciating pain.

During one of his high-octane fight scenes, Bernthal was doing what he does best, staging a fierce skirmish with his crew when suddenly, an unexpected guest decided to crash the party. Bernthal recalled (viaYouTube):

I have done this 20 times, I know all these guys by their names. And now this guy is running at me with fcking dreadlocks. I am thinking, who is this f**king clown? And he reaches back like this guy was going to hit me, and sure enough, he just throws a f*cking right hand right at my head. In the last second, I blocked it with my riot shield.

The situation escalated quickly. Realizing he had to defend himself, Bernthal threw a counter-punch that landed squarely in the intruder’s eye, sending him crashing down. But the plot twist? The intruder wobbled towards Bernthal and gave him a hug. To quote the latter:

After we finished the scene, I was looking around to understand what had happened. He was bleeding profusely from his eye, and he came up to me and gave me a f*cking hug.

Well, on the work front, fans of Bernthal can look forward to his return as Frank Castle inDaredevil: Born Again, slated for release in March 2025.
