Back in the beginning of August, Bluehole studiosopened up a websitetitled “Fix PUBG” which planned a roadmap to improve the game by implementing requests made by its players. Well, it looks like that bug-fixing campaign is officially over and there is now a change of direction for development.
Noted byEurogamer, executive producer Taeseok Jang opened up a bit about some issues with the game in an open letter to players published onSteam. He admitted that PUBG Corp. had “overlooked issues that matter to you” and that they have reflected on a lot of their mistakes.
The development studio has moved their priorities for its 2019 roadmap after everything they have learned.
Taeseok Jang stated:
“At first, this is likely to slow down our build cadence, but as these processes become more proficient, we hope to provide new content as fast as before, while maintaining our new stability and quality-first goal. While we cannot say how long this will take, we promise you that we will give our best efforts to reach this stage as quickly as possible.”
In the post, Taeseok Jang highlighted all of the improvements that they have made toPlayerUnkown’s Battlegroundssince the launch of the campaign including client performance, server performance, matchmaking, anti-cheat, bug fixing, and quality of life improvements. It was also noted that over two million accounts have been banned during the Fix PUBG campaign alone.
The executive producer knows that there are still improvements to be made. He stated:
“We know there are many things to improve upon, but we do have a sense that we more accurately feel what you, the players want and need. While this is the end of the Fix PUBG campaign, we will go forward in our development, improve our processes, and redouble our efforts with the lessons learned.”
While the popularity ofPUBGhas certainly fallen since its initial rise to fame because of a plethora of bugs and the behemoth of a game that isFortnite, the game is still going strong and is still the most popular game on Steam. I still pop in at times to play a few matches on Xbox, the mobile version is extremely popular, and the game iscoming to PS4next month. Yes,PUBGmight not be as popular as it once was, but it is not going away anytime soon.
