It seems like near every console launch, video game companies partner with famous celebrities to help sell their platform. Microsoft recently enlistedThe Rock to help with a new campaign involving the Xbox Series Xand back in 2017Nintendo tag-teamed with John Cenain an ad for the Switch. Now, Sony has released some new videos ahead of thePS5launch that feature some familiar faces.
Posted to PlayStation’s YouTube channel, two new videos featuring actor Michael B. Jordan and professional tennis superstar Naomi Osaka have recently gone live. Each video follows a similar format and sees both Jordan and Osaka going hands-on with the PS5 for the first time. The videos also featuring gameplay from upcoming titles likeMarvel’s Spider-Man: Miles MoralesandCall of Duty: Black Ops - Cold Warspliced in, too.
Perhaps the most enjoyable part of each video comes less with how Osaka and Jordan respond to playing the PS5, but more with their own personal histories with the PlayStation brand. Jordan says that his favorite game as a kid wasResident Evil(great taste) and that it’s something he would play with his sisters. Osaka didn’t cite any single game in particular, but said that she has long played on PlayStation to help her wind down after tennis matches or practices.
The most bizarre part of these two videos though comes in Osaka’s, where it seems as though the first uncut gameplay footage from Capcom’sResident Evil Villagehas been shown. Osaka is shown playing through a demo from the new entry in theREseries. I don’t know about you, but I definitely didn’t have “Naomi Osaka revealing gameplay fromResident Evil Village” on my next-gen bingo card. And while I’m not going to get my hopes up, perhaps the fact that she’s playing a demo of the game means that Capcom could release this same demo publicly in the future. It’s something they did forResident Evil 7, after all.
Anyway, if you can’t get enough of that PlayStation goodness before the arrival of the PS5 this Thursday, these videos are each worth your time, especially if you’re a fan of either Jordan or Osaka.
