The long-awaited Project: Playtime introduces multiplayer to the hit Poppy Playtime series. MOB Entertainment’s anticipated horror title invites six players to delve into the mysterious Playtime Co. toy factory, which is filled with toy-like monstrosities, including one controlled by the seventh player. While the players are tasked with assembling a giant toy before getting hunted by the factory’s grotesque inhabitants, it seems like a great number of them failed to accomplish that as the game’s extremely laggy state is far from offering a stable experience.

The title’s rough entry into the early access period has resulted in thousands of negative reviews on Steam. At the time of writing, Project: Playtime is rated as “Mixed” on Steam, with more than 45% of total reviews being negative. It is also worth noting that the game missed its targeted release date by a week. Its original release date was December 6, but the multiplayer horror title opened the doors to Playtime Co. on December 12.

MOB Entertainment’s free-to-play title is being criticized for more than its performance issues. The game is also under fire because of its monetization mechanics that allow players to buy perks and upgrades with an in-game currency, called the Toy Tickets. While these perks and upgrades do grant advantages over other players, the official description of the game states that Toy Tickets can only be earned by completing tasks in the game. The game’s Steam page reads “You cannot purchase these tickets, there is no pay-to-win.”

That being said, the multiplayer toy horror does come with purchasable content. The seasonal Toy Boxes come with a plethora of new skins and costumes for monster and human characters. It is possible to see what these skin boxes might offer before purchasing them, and they do not provide items that grant boosts that will give the player an edge over others.

Moreover, it’s worth noting that they are currently disabled alongside other purchases as the team at MOB is hard at work fixing bugs to ensure a smooth gameplay experience. The developers also announced that it isscaling up its serversto meet the high number of Project: Playtime players.

So the next update should introduce new fixes and increase the game’s optimization. Until then, keep in mind that you might experience issues during gameplay and store purchases.
