The Tera type is the newly added aspect in the Paldea region, which is a consequence of a phenomenon called Terastallizing. Basically, Pokemon have another type attached to them which is their Tera type, and attacks of the same type as the Tera type get a boost. Additionally, if the Tera-type matches the type of the Pokemon they get a 50% damage boost for their super-effective moves. Recently, the developers introduced Tera Raids in the game as well, where players take on extremely rare Tera Pokemon via in-game raids. With Mewtwo making its debut in Tera Raids soon, here is everything you need to know about the event.

How To Find Mewtwo Tera Raid

In order to start the Mewtwo Tera Raid, players need to follow a similar process as the regular Tera Raids. All you need to do is find the black crystals on the game’s map. They can be spotted from afar if you look into the sky, as they emit a black beam of light, and you can reach it by simply following it. Additionally, you can take part in Tera Raids by heading to the Poke Portal and then selecting Tera Raid battles. This will allow you to join other raids via Link Codes, join a random raid, or join a Union Circle raid.

Last, but not least, you need to ensure that you have unlocked 6-Star Tera Raid battles before you can take on Mewtwo. For that, you will first need to complete the Academy Ace Tournament at Naranja Academy which can be accessed after completing the game. Complete 10 5-star raids after that, and you will get a Jacq which will unlock 6-star raids for you.

Best Mewtwo Raid Counters

For starters, this is going to be the most difficult Tera raid you will take part in. The previous cycle of Tera Raids included the likes of Scizor, Blissey, and Hydreigon, but those were only 5-star raids. The developers were holding those raids to prepare players for the onslaught of Mewtwo and each of them had a purpose. Mewtwo will be a Psychic Tera-Type, which will make it vulnerable to Bug, Dark, and Ghost-type attacks. Scizor, being a bug-type Pokemon will be super-effective against Mewtwo, Hydreigon’s Dark/Dragon type ensures Psychic immunity, while Blissey is an excellent support.

But are these the best counters for Mewtwo? Well, while these are pretty good for tackling Mewtwo, the best counter remains to be Mew, which is something avid players would recall from the previous games. The only problem players had earlier was not having a Mew, but the developers have solved that by giving away a free Mew to players as part of the Pokemon Presents event which was held earlier this month. As far as the strategy with Mew goes, you should basically aim to increase your Special Attack by using Nasty Plot, and then use Dark Pulse to deal tons of damage to Mewtwo. Life Dew is going to come in handy too again Mewtwo’s deadly attacks.

Apart from that, there are some other good alternatives you’re able to go for, although going for Mew is highly recommended considering how versatile the moveset can be with Mew. Dark types such as Hydreigon, Honchkrow, Wo-Chien, Gimmsnarl, Spiritomb, and Sableye are quite effective, as are Ghost and Bug types such as Flutter Mane and Scizor. If you want to cut the diamond with a diamond, you can use a good psychic type such as Hatterene as well.
