The in-game description of this item states: “An item to be held by a Pokemon. This cute and rather unique-looking shield protects the holder from having its Ability changed by others.”
What Does The Ability Shield Do?
The Ability Shield is an item thatprotects the user Pokemon from Ability changing moves. This means that a move such as “Skill Swap,” which switches the user’s Ability with the target’s Ability, will no longer have that effect; the Ability Shield ensures that this cannot happen to a Pokemon.
This item can mean victory or defeat when you have a Pokemon with powerful Abilities. For instance, the Ability"Good As Gold," Gholdengo’s signature Ability, ensures that the Pokemon won’t be affected by any moves that have a status condition. If the Gholdengo’s Ability is changed, it can begin to experience these status conditions. Thankfully, if theGholdengois holding an Ability Shield, they don’t need to worry about anything changing their Ability.

Where Can You Find The Ability Shield?
While a lot of items can be found throughout Paldea on the ground, the Ability Shield is not one of them. The only way that you can find an Ability Shield ispurchasing it in Mesagoza, the main city where the Pokemon Academy is located in each game.
Once you get to Mesagoza, go to theDelibird Presentson the east side on the city. It can be purchased for20,000 League Points or PokeCoins. You will need to look at theBattle Items sectionin order to find it. Once you give the item to your Pokemon to hold, they will be good to go!
