The Pokémon Companyhas confirmed that the next update forSword and Shieldwill be it’s last. The final update will come on November 1, providing the last new content to the pair of games.
While trading and battling among your friends won’t be affected, the ranked battle league will no longer have new and updated seasons. Your ranking will also be taken off from Pokémon Home, supposedly to make room for your ranking inScarlet and Violet. This update will also provide the last change to the Wild Area events, which have been changing once a month since the initial release back in 2019. One of the last additions to the Wild Area will be Gigantimax Snorlax, and the current state of the Wild Area will remain permanently unchanged after this update.

The changes are in preparation for the new release of Scarlet and Violet on November 18. The changes to Pokémon Home are intended to make room for the newest games' ranking system; to keep the app up the date with whatever game is recent and still being supported. After their release, Scarlet amd Violet will take over as the current competitive game, and services that are being pulled from Sword and Shield will continue, just with the new set of games.
While some aspects of Scarlet and Violet are still to be seen on release, The Pokémon Company has made a lot of new content available as the release date approaches. Scarlet and Violet will be the firsttruly open-world Pokémon game. There will be three storylines for players to follow, allowing you to jump from one to another at your own pace and play the game in whatever order you want.
Gym battles can also, for the first time, be fought in whatever order you want. Exactly how this will work and how the battles will scale is still to be seen. This game may also further switch the formula of previous Pokémon games by giving you the poster legendary of the game at the beginning. These legendary Pokémon can be ridden in order to traverse the open world faster.
