Persona 3 Reloadhas the central goal of trying to get to the top of Tartarus to uncover the mystery between the shadows, the Dark Hour, and the tower’s existence. On most in-game nights, players will be able to explore Tartarus during the Dark Hour, climbing floor after floor to reach the top.

Persona 3 Reload: How To Raise Courage

Courage is one of the three social stats in Persona 3 Reload; here’s how to raise it.

Tartarus also acts as the nest for the shadows, with the entire tower swarming with them, with just a few floors being an exception. With all sorts of dangers running around the tower, here are some tips for staying alive.

10Crystalized Shadows

Get Free Items & Farm Twilight Fragments

One new addition to Persona 3 Reload from the base game is the introduction of Crystalized Shadows. These small structures can be attacked outside of combat and destroyed. Destroying them will often reward the player with a treasure item or restoration item.

If the structure has an orange light, it will be either a treasure or a restoration item. If the light is blue, it will always drop aTwilight Fragment, but these are much more rare. Players should scour every floor to find and break every Crystalized Shadow to make sure they get all the treasures and potential healing items possible to make their trip to Tartarus easier.

9Double Trouble

Sometimes, There Will Be Two Gatekeepers

Every few floors in Tartarus will be a difficult Gatekeeper fight. These mini-bosses serve as great skill checks to ensure you’re not rushing through Tartarus and are appropriately leveled for what’s ahead. Usually, these fights also have a teleporter beforehand, letting players go back and save before the fight.

In a surprise twist, some Gatekeepers will have back-to-back fights, with the second one not having a teleporter to use to save. This means players will have to fight each boss back to back, offering a greater challenge than usual. Be sure to be overly prepared for a Gatekeeper fight, as there may actually be two.

8Ration Twilight Fragments

Don’t Just Throw Away The Rarest Item

Twilight Fragments are one of Persona 3 Reload’s most rare items, being used for both HP/SP restoration and opening chests. While a few Twilight Fragments can be found in Tartarus, it’s important to remember you won’t always be getting enough to fully restore your party every trip.

It’ll sometimes be better to leave and come back another day than use all your Twilight Fragments just to heal your party. The gear received from the chests opened by Twilight Fragments is also very powerful and is well worth the cost.

7Stock & Use Items

Use Items To Save SP

Tartarus is a marathon, not a spirit, and using your resources too quickly will leave you drained and stranded on one of Tartarus' seemingly endless floors. While it may be tempting to use SP outside of combat to heal your party, using items may usually be the better option.

While earning money can be a bit of work, using items to heal instead of magic can help conserve your party’s SP for the more difficult battles ahead. SP items are also very useful but should also be used wisely as they are much more difficult to come across.

6Use The Fortune Teller

Make Your Trips To Tartarus More Efficient

The Fortune Teller is unlocked fairly early in the game after players gain access to Club Escapade. While her services can only be used a limited number of times, it is well worth the cost to increase the number of golden hands running around in Tartarus on a given day.

Increasing the spawn rate of Golden Hands alone is well worth the cost and should be used between each full moon to get the most out of the potential experience. The Theurgy fortune can also be helpful for those dealing with a difficult boss or just charging up before the next Full Moon Operation.

A Fun Challenge To Not Take Lightly

Monad Doors are unique challenges unlocked in the third block of Tartarus. While many players may jump at a challenge and chance for more treasure, it’s important to note that these fights can be incredibly challenging.

Despite being scaled for whatever level the door is found on, the fights within hit the upper limit of what that scaling allows to be possible. Before entering a Monad Door or Passage, before to save and thoroughly prepare, as there will most definitely be a difficult fight within.

4Ambush Everything

Always Have The Upper Hand In Battle

While running around in Tartarus, players can attack a Shadow to engage in battle. Should the player hit the Shadow from behind, they will ambush the Shadow and begin the fight with a SEES advantage. This will allow the entire party to attack first before the enemy can.

This can make random encounters a lot easier and give the player the upper hand in battle. Should the Shadow attack and hit the player, all Shadows in that fight will get to attack first before the party can, which can lead to dangerous consequences.

Sometimes random people will hear the call of Shadows and wander into Tartarus; and it’s your job to save them.

3Use Fuuka’s Theurgy Often

Free HP/SP Restoration While In Combat

After Fuuka and herTheurgyare unlocked, it should be used on regular exploration missions to Tartarus as often as possible. While it is only a change, her Theurgy, Oracle, will regenerate a large sum of SP for the entire party.

This offers free SP restoration while exploring and can help players save on SP restoration items and Twilight Fragments. Her Theurgy also has a chance of buffing the party in battle or just restoring their HP, all of which are very helpful in keeping the party prepared for what’s next.

2Major Arcana Cards & Shuffle Time

Maximize Your Bonuses While Exploring Tartarus

Major Arcana cards are some of the most important cards to look out for in Shuffle Time. Not only do these cards give large bonuses to the party for the remainder of their trip to Tartarus, but getting enough can also lead to an Arcana Break.

Arcana Breaks will have all future cards in Shuffle Time appear at a higher level than what usually appears on that floor. Getting an Arcana Break early into a Tartarus trip can not only make that trip easier but also make it much more lucrative in terms of XP and money gained.

1Save Often

Never Lose Your Progress

When the Protagonist goes down in combat, there is an immediate game over. Players can’t save in Tartarus except on the first floor, making any trip above that dangerous in terms of losing progress.

Whenever a two-way or even one-way teleporter is found, it’s usually a safe option to go back and save. While it may seem excessive, nothing is worse than losing abunch of levelsand an hour of grinding just because a Shadow got a lucky critical on the Protagonist.
