Spirit is a resource inPath of Exile 2that you might not fully understand until you’re well into a playthrough.
It’s something that doesn’t play a major role in some builds but is essential in others. For the most part, a majority of builds in Path of Exile 2 can utilize Spirit in some form, but players often don’t have enough of the resource to make full use of it.

Generally, Spirit allows you to gain consistent, passive buffs that help your character out in combat.
These buffs come in many forms, and you can acquire different types of Spirit by using Uncut Spirit Gems and equipping them into unused sockets. You’ll also need Spirit to summon minions if your build utilizes them.

How to Increase Spirit in Path of Exile 2
There are three primary ways to get more Spirit in Path of Exile 2. By default, every build starts with zero Spirit, meaning you may’t make use of any Spirit Gems at the start of the game.
Fortunately, every player will end up with at least 30 Spirit fairly soon into Act 1. From there, it’s up to you to earn more of it.

Below, we’ll show you all the ways you may increase your build’s Spirit.
Defeat Bosses for Spirit Items
The default way that Path of Exile 2 players canincrease their Spiritis by defeating specific bosses. These bosses can drop items that boost your Spirit by a certain amount when you consume them.
For example, in Act 1, you will take on the “Ominous Altars” quest in the Freythorn region. Here, your objective is to destroy and cleanse three altars that are scattered around the map. Once that’s done, you have to destroy one final altar that’s guarded by a boss named"The King in the Mists."

The King in the Mists is tricky to beat but once you’ve done so, they will drop an item called the “Gembloom Skull.”
The skull is added to your inventory; if you choose to consume it, your Spirit will increase by 30. This should allow you to equip one Spirit Gem on your character in Act 1, but you’ll need more to equip any additional ones.

There are plenty of additional bosses that drop Spirit-boosting items in Path of Exile 2. They’re not all story bosses either, so you want to look on your map for any boss icons in the regions you’ve visited.
If the boss icon has faded away, you may defeat it. While there’s no guarantee the boss you fight will drop Spirit, you might get another rare piece of gear instead.
If you do choose to seek out Spirit bosses in Path of Exile 2, here’s a list of every one that drops a Spirit item:
The King in the Mists
Freythorn (Act 1)
Ignaduk, The Bog Witch
The Azak Bog (Act 3)
Ignaduk, The Bog Witch (Cruel Difficulty)
Use Gear that Boosts Spirit
The next way you can boost your Spirit in Path of Exile 2 is by equipping gear pieces that specifically increase Spirit.
If you find a new piece of gear, whether it be a weapon or armor, look at its affixes by hovering over the gear’s icon. If one of the affixes is an increase to Spirit, then you might want to think about equipping it.
Two prime examples of gear that increases Spirit are a Sceptre, which boosts Spirit by +100, and a Solar Amulet. The Sceptre, in particular, will make a huge difference, but it’s a one-handed weapon that you’ll want to equip on your off-hand.
If your build uses a two-handed weapon or a shield in the off-hand, then you likely won’t be able to use a Sceptre. Fortunately, something like the Solar Amulet or any piece of gear could compensate for that loss, if you can find gear with a plus to Spirit.
Path of Exile 2: How to Trade
The easiest way to get valuable loot!
For those of you with bad gear luck, you can always try to use orbs that give your items extra affixes. One of those random affixes could be a Spirit increase.
you may also attempt to gamble with the random gear vendor and acquire some gear with a Spirit affix that way as well.
Play as an Infernalist
The final way you can increase your Spirit in Path of Exile 2 is by playing as the Infernalist. This is an Ascendancy for theWitch class, so you won’t be able to play as an Infernalist during your first playthrough with a build.
However, as you proceed onto the endgame with your Witch, you will be able to eventually select an Ascendancy. This opens up a new skill tree with plenty of additional nodes to choose from. One of those nodes is called “Beidat’s Will,” and it boosts your Spirit by one per 25 maximum life.
This means if you have a high life stat, you can rack up extra Spirit without having to equip certain gear or fight specific bosses.
The node will make it so part of your life is reserved for Spirit, though, so you’re essentially trading health for Spirit. If that’s something you can live with, it’s a worthwhile node to acquire as an Infernalist Witch.
Choosing to go that route does allow you to select more life-boosting nodes down the road as well. So you’re able to easily find a way to offset the life lost with Beidat’s Will while still having the buff to Spirit.
