Recently, PlayStation celebrated its 30th anniversary, a significant milestone in the gaming industry. Over the course of these three decades, the company has developed and published a wide array of exclusive titles. This has created a diverse library that includes some of the most iconic franchises in gaming history.

However, as the company looks forward to its future, it has also begun to reflect on its past. In an interview, Co-CEO Herman Hulst shared some insights, revealing that the company is also actively looking to revive past IPs. And what better candidate for such a revival thanGravity Rush? It is a title with immense potential that deserves another chance to shine.
PlayStation can revive the unique appeal ofGravity Rush
In an interview withFamitsu, Hulst explained that the vast number of intellectual properties (IPs) PlayStation holds is going to become an integral part of the company’s strategy moving forward.
He explained that PlayStation is focused on developing new franchises. it is equally committed to exploring and reviving some of its classic IPs. He said:

The numerous IP holdings we hold are important assets for PlayStation, and as part of our efforts to strengthen our portfolio, we are continuously looking at opportunities to leverage past IPs, as well as developing new franchises.
However, it is equally committed to exploring and reviving some of its classic IPs. This comment stirred excitement among fans, hinting that beloved classics could see new life on modern platforms. Among the vast array of historic titles,Gravity Rushstands out as one of the candidates for the revival.

Originally released in 2012 as a PS Vita exclusive, the game introduced a very unique mechanic, which allowed players to control/manipulate gravity at will as players took on the role of Kat, a mysterious young woman with incredible power.

The game’s fluid and dynamic combat set it apart from others on the platform, butdespite the praise it received, it didn’tachieve the mainstream success it deserved.
Though the 2016 remaster gave the game a second chance (along with a sequel in 2017) to reach more players, a further revival (possibly made for current-gen consoles like PS5) would bring the franchise closer to its potential, especially with technological improvements and broader marketing.

The time is now for the PlayStation
With PlayStation’s 30 years of historyand the growing trend of reviving beloved classics, now is the perfect time forGravity Rushto receive its long-deserved revival. It has the potential to reclaim its place as one of the most unique and innovative franchises in the console’s catalog.

The game offers distinct mechanics, a captivating world, and untapped commercial potential making it a prime candidate for revival, and with the company’s renewed focus on leveraging past IPs, it’s a move that could pay off for both the company and its fans.
As Sony continues to expand its portfolio, reviving this game would be a bold step that not only pays tribute to the company’s past but also paves the way for new and exciting experiences in the future.

In the end, given the current gaming landscape, the time is ripe for the console to once again harness the gravity-defying magic that made the game so unique and let it achieve new heights.
