One Piecehas a formidable cast of characters and the Revolutionary Army is the biggest threat to the World Government. While Sabo and Monkey D. Dragon are the most memorable to fans, there’s another man who lurks in the shadows: Karasu, the commander of the Northern Forces in the Revolutionary Army. He’s eaten one of the most visually intimidating Devil Fruits in the series, matching his bounty of 400 million berries.

From his domineering appearance to the darkness of his Devil Fruit, it’s no wonder fans love the edge he brings to the vibrant world ofOne Piece. But the question persists, is the commander hiding a Zoan Type, despite the canon saying it’s a Logia?

What is the Soot Soot Fruit?

The Soot Soot Fruit, or Susu Susu no Mi, is a powerful Devil Fruit that allows Karasu to manipulate soot as well as produce it. Hearing soot, you might start visualizing a Soot Sprite from Spirited Away. However, when he showcases his powers, it’s one of the most convenient but dangerous ways a Logia Fruit has been used. He has instantly become a highlight ofepisode 1117.

Sabo leaves Dressrosa riding one of Karasu’s crows.

While he hasn’t been showcased enough, Karasu has shaped the soot into crows with which he can effectively communicate. It’s his signature technique,“Karasusu”(Crow Soot). Sabo even rides one of them after the Dressrosa arc, carrying him to their base, Baltigo.

“The Gum-Gum Fruit is borderline useless”: One Piece Haters Bite the Dust After Blaming Eiichiro Oda for the One Thing He Would Never Do to Luffy

Eiichiro Odaisn’t exactly subtle with wordplay. His name Karasu, which is the Japanese word for “a crow” or “a raven”, had to tie in somehow. This exact scene is why we’re debating the Logia vs Zoan in the first place. The commander can also, however, shape and shoot soot-based weaponry, as showcased during his fight against the World Government agents inepisode 1117. So, while well animated, it’s not much case in point for the Zoan Type.

Is the Soot Soot Fruit An Awakened Zoan or a Powerful Logia?

Considering Zoan Type Fruit users can transform or, at the least, become a hybrid of the Devil Fruit they ate, it’s almost guaranteed that Karasu is a Logia user. He hasn’t demonstrated the ability to turn into a crow himself so the answer is definitely Logia.

During his fight withFujitora, he used the soot to fly towards him like a crow and summoned crows out of his soot wings. Zoan Type Fruit Users could possibly do this if their Devil Fruit is awakened. So, is there a slight chance he’s Zoan Type?

From his position in the Revolutionary Army to his deadly precision, Karasu should be compared to a predator amongst his prey, just like a crow. His takedown of the World Government agents at Mary Geoise not only impresses One Piece fans but also makes him an instant favourite Logia user.
