Yukinobu Tatsu’sDandadanhas taken the Shonen Jump by fire, as the series has surprised the Shonen fans. The series is one of the newest additions and feels something out of the box; it feels bizarre yet so addictive. Well, for the right reasons, of course, as it features a surreal premise, an alluring art style, and gripping writing.

The series features two protagonists, Ken Takakura and Momo Ayase, who became unlikely friends and share a common interest, that of the supernatural. Okarun, as named by Ayase, possesses a special power that is known as Turbo Granny.
This special ability gives him superhuman abilities, as it comes in handy when the hero is saving the day, fighting aliens and demons. However, most fans are clueless about his abilities and how it makes him a formidable force in the unconventional series.

Dandadan’s Popularity Soars as Okarun’s Abilities Excite the Shonen Fans
Dandadan’ssoaring popularity has made it the perfect series that cruises on the popularity of dark Shonen series such asJujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man,andHell’s Paradise:Jigokuraku. Interestingly, just like the trio, it is equally intriguing and follows a pretty dark storyline, where human beings are fighting extraterrestrial and supernatural beings.
Ken Takakura, who also goes by his alias, has already become a fan-favorite protagonist as he battles these beings using his powers of Turbo Granny. The protagonist was possessed by the yokai, and they only managed to extract its mind, which allowed him to make the powers his own.

This, in turn, assisted him to compete with aliens and yokai, whilst enhancing his reflexes, speed, strength, and a lot more. Once he uses his superhuman, which he prefers to call“All-Out,”allows him to run at the speed of 100 km/hr. However, his stamina limits him because he can’t use the ability more than twice as his stamina hinders him.
However, when he is not running, he can teleport through telephone wires, enabling long-distance travel without running out of breath. However, teleportation and superspeed are not his only abilities because he can also perform astral projection, which was discovered in a total accident.

The abilities are far superior, but fans should not misunderstand that Ken Takkakura is just a teen with subpar reflexes and strength. Just likeSolo Leveling, the protagonist, here also underwent rigorous training to utilize their abilities to the fullest, allowing him to develop them as the series continues.
Dandadan’s Director Has Big Plans for the Title
Indeed, the manga’s popularity had forced the title to receive an anime adaptation, and Fuuga Yamashiro, the director behind the project, has vowed to take the adaptation to greater heights. The passion is immense, as directors who seek to constantly push the cinematic boundaries are quite vital for the industry.
Yamashiro-San has a lot on his mind, as shared his views during an email interview viaAnimation Magazine, that he indeed has a plan to set the bar higher for other projects in the industry. He said,

By creating ‘gaps’ in different places, you can show a wide variety of styles on screen, creating a good balance of the different genres and tempos, allowing each scene to stand out. That makes the whole series feel like a roller coaster. I think this relates to the lively emotions of the characters and the ever-changing nature of the original work.
Though the title may not be as popular as other projects of the same genre, a unique approach with bold creative choices is working for the show, as fans are allured to the show’s plot, and its response gives a bright light on the longevity of the work.
