What has Nicolas Cage Said About Playing Spider-Noir?
The last few years for Nicolas Cage have been impeccable and to top it off he will be now portraying the Marvel superhero Spider-Man Noir. A black-clad, gangster-like vigilante who is not afraid to use violence, he will be seen in 1930s New York City, possibly going against corrupt officials and mobsters in Sony’sSpider-Noir.
While the actor has yet to give his remarks on how it has been portraying the character since the filming has already begun, he did offer some very promising remarks when he was still in talks to get hired for the job. Back in March, when asked about Spider-Noir byCollider, Cage stated,
Well, I can say that we have been talking. It’s no secret that I love the character. I think the character provides another mash up of sorts. I can combine my favorite golden age performances, i.e. Robinson, Cagney, Bogart, with a character that is, I guess, widely considered [to be] Stan Lee’s masterpiece. I see it as a kind of foray into a pop art mash up of, sort of, a [Jungian] Lichtenstein, mash up by way of Bogart and Cagney…
Thus, a huge fan of the character already, theGhost Riderstar is the perfect choice to portray the former private investigator. In another interview, withThe New Yorker, Cage remarked that while he doesn’t like violence, he likes thatSpider-Noiris fantasy and has ‘monsters involved.’ Given his penchant for playing dark and eccentric characters, there is no doubt he will excel as Noir as well.
Nic Cage’s Spider-Man Noir: Brendan Gleeson May be Playing a Villain Who Became Famous after the 1994 Spider-Man Animated Series
As the actor continues filming, which is expected to last till February of next year, the first look of the series was recently leaked. As far as looks go, the character looks straight out of a comic book, which is not only promising but exhilarating as well for comic book fans (viaTMZ).
Although it was just Cage’s stunt double who was spotted filming, it is safe to say that the look alone has made fans hopeful. Expected to be released next year or the year after next, we can hardly wait to see what Sony has been cooking!
