Apart from menacing villains and shocking plot twists, Naruto often doesn’t get credit for its epic showdowns in the series. The original series was iconic in its outlining of badassery especially with the animation and battles.

Gaara of the Sand

Be it Sasuke’s fight with Gaara orNaruto’sfight with Neji, Kishimoto’s series reigned supreme for all the right reasons. But there is a fight that remains unmatched in terms of its legendary status.

With the original series outlining goofy humor and light-hearted moments, it stands in contrast with Shippuden. The fight underlined this very aspect which makes it hilarious and enthralling to this date.

But what seems unjust for the most part is the franchise’s treatment of its characters. This holds relevance for the side characters in the series mainly Rock Lee who truly deserved more screen time and development.

Kishimoto’s iconic fight scene deserves a comeback

Masashi Kishimotois unparalleled when it comes to the iconic fights in his series. He is a master at referencing cultural symbols in his manga. Be it Rashomon or the masks, he left no stone unturned in carving his series as a masterpiece.

Apart from his blend of modern and traditional elements with cultural symbols, Kishimoto is discounted for hisgoofy humor in the series. And while the anime showcased the lighthearted moments, it probably wouldn’t age well.

Additionally, Kishimoto did a splendid job of highlighting thedark aspectsof his manga. Be it bloodlust or depravity, the series was nothing short of a brilliant literary masterpiece.

The duels and showdowns, moreover, were a bonus to this. With Chunin Exams spotlighting the iconic fights in the series, Kimimaro and Rock Lee’s duel that unmatched in terms of its humor and goofiness. This is something that most fans on the internet would vouch for.

By and by, the series failed Rock Lee and several other characters immensely. When it comes to side character potential, Kishimoto left several loose ends in this case. With Lee, the character was fizzled out in the worst way possible especially with his short-lived stint in the Shippuden series.

Narutofizzling out Rock Lee’s character

TheNarutofranchise has failed several characters throughout the series be it Tenten or Shino. While the characters make their comeback in Boruto, they truly deserve their much-needed screen time. Of all the side characters, though, Lee truly deserved better.

As a Taijutsu prodigy, Lee was a truly daunting and unmatched opponent. Like Guy and Duy, his ninjutsu skills were mediocre which is why he excelled in his forte of Taijutsu. This proved detrimental for his enemies including Master Chen.

Not to mention, both Sasuke andNarutocopied his Taijutsu skills to counterattack their opponents during the Chunin Exams. Even without his Eight Gates transformation, the prodigy was able tobe on par with Gaaraof the Sand.

Moreover, his mastery of the Eight Gates is nothing short of a feat in itself. While the jutsu proved detrimental to Guy’s fate as a shinobi Lee was able to counter its effects in the long run. This contrasts with the kekkei-genkai and dojutsu users.

Characters like Tenten, Rock Lee, and Sakura deserve their due recognition and respect for making their name in the shinobi world. As non-Uchihas and Hyugas, the mastery of their skills is what underlined Kishimoto’s prowess as an excellent writer and storyteller.

Narutois available for streaming on Crunchyroll. The manga is available for reading on Viz Media.
