Kohei Horikoshi gaveMy Hero Academiafans the biggest heartbreak with how the manga ended. A series that had been ongoing for a decade had accumulated a fan following wide enough. Its stance remained to be amongst the best new-gen works and despite all the fame it got, criticism was also soon to follow. While there was much debate about how the series ended, everyone came to agree with one aspect.

Deku from My Hero Academia

What fans had expected and what they got were poles apart from each other. A happy ending for Deku seemed to be just too much to ask for because of what Horikoshi ended up giving him. To much of the audience, the final chapter was the biggest fumble when it was instead supposed to act as the perfect conclusion.

My Hero Academia’s Lost Potential

Chapter 419 ofMy Hero Academiaintroduced an entirely new aspect to the story before it came to an end. Shigaraki’s character had much more going on to him than anyone had anticipated. He had been acting as a formidable foe for a long time and his Quirk was menacing enough to cause the destruction of his own family. All for One wasn’t just responsible for pulling the antagonist under his control.

He had also been the character who was actively pulling Shigaraki’s strings from his childhood. His Quirk was always seen to be something absolutely horrendous. Its destructive capabilities made it one of the most interesting and chaotic Quirks within the series. Shigaraki and Decay being responsible for the destruction and devastation of the Shimura family added an extra layer to his character.

It created a path for him that reeked of evil. It was in his fate to destroy and watch as everything around him slowly died because of his own powers. The reveal that it was All for One who was responsible for it all took away any impact the entire tragedy had.

The Alternate Fate of Tenko Shimura

All for One used Shigaraki’s Quirk and altered its functioning to his own benefit. Chapter 419 established him as the main antagonist of the series and made it obvious that he would stop at no lengths to get what he wanted. Tomura Shigaraki was a force to be reconned with and his power made sure there was no other way to see him than as a villain.

It was revealed that his Quirk initially also had regenerative capabilities. That quite literally provided a perfect balance between his powers; to destroy and to reconstruct. He always seemed to be someone who could have been destined for greatness but was instead forced to become such a monster. While that was only reading into certain themes,Kohei Horikoshimade it real.

It became obvious that the character was meant for more than what he was given. He could have perhaps even walked the path of a hero. To regenerate and reconstruct that which he has decayed, Shigaraki wasn’t just someone who could destroy, he was also someone who could create.
