Things were no different when he joined forces with Christopher Nolan forInsomnia, which starred Robin Williams in one of the late actor’s most distinctive roles, a far cry from his comedic roots.
While the A-listers shared impeccable chemistry onscreen, behind the scenes, William’s commitment to the villainous gig didn’t hinder his comic antics, as he later confessed to teasing Pacino’s method acting.

Elaborating on Pacino’s method, Williams detailed that his costar would roar like a lion before each take, and in order to mess with him, Williams bleated like a goat (viaFlexiblehead).
My first day working with Al… he does this method thing where before every take he would roar like a lion. So my first day working with him I bleated like a goat. ‘Baaaaah’. ‘What was that?’ It’s me, Al, it’s Robin, I was just kidding.’
But theJumanjistar’s playfulness on set didn’t hinder the gravity of the film, as Williams expressed nothing but admiration for Pacino, adding that it was quite surreal to witness theScarfacestar act.

WhileChristopher Nolanis more notable for his more ambitious releases along the likes ofInterstellar,Inception, and the Oscar-winningOppenheimer, it’s the Al Pacino-led flick that remains special to the director. Given that it was Nolan’s first studio film, the director expressed that the film remains personal to him, which he deemed his most underrated release (viaCBR).
I’m very proud of the film. I think, of all my films, it’s probably the most underrated. The reality is it’s one of my most personal films in terms of what it was to make it. It was a very vivid time in my life. It was my first studio film, I was on location, it was the first time I’d worked with huge movie stars.
Moreover, Nolan’s experience with Pacino assisted the director in recognizing great acting, which further explains why he has been successful inbringing out the bestin actors as a filmmaker.
